4 Series (G22) BMW i4 Concept

The second generation of the BMW 4 Series consists of the G22 (coupé version), G23 (convertible version), and G26 (5-door liftback version, marketed as the Gran Coupé) compact executive cars. The G22 4 Series was launched in June 2020 for the 2021 model year and succeeds the F32 4 Series. Production: 2020–
Yeah well, I hope they keep the long hood forever. It’s a trademark feature and I love it.

It's negative, because they don't use this space. If you have long engine ok. These are the proportions of an in-line 6(or v12) and RWD. Not having them and having a long hood is grotesque. It's worse than the fake exhaust. I'm all for form follows function. And here it is not the case.

According to what you see the platforms to be used are

4 coupe = normal 3 series?
i4 and 4 GC = 3 series Long wheel base?

To each his own, I just think your reasoning is pretty ridiculous though. But no doubt in 20 years we will all be driving in efficient blobs, where the front looks the same as the rear, and you'll be happy.

No, and exactly this is the reason for my ranting

Gotta be honest, I wouldn't trade the profile of the i4 for this amount of extra space...

I don't believe you would buy a 4-room apartment in which you can not use one of the rooms because its packed with luggage remained from the previous owner, but you still have to pay for it the full price.

Where comes your obsession regarding trunk space? The I4 will get (that has been said many times) a trunk with really big capacity. Who then cares for an additional 150l frunk? Are you working for a moving company?
I am very willing to trade in 150l additional frunk space, which I would never utilize anyhow for a good design, which the I4 definitely has ... instead of having this frunk thingy and looking like a dog having a shit as the Tesla model 3 does ;) (@Matski thank you for the photo)

Guys, it seems that you don't get it. No one has to trade the frunck in order to have nice proportions. The problem is that BMW could not engineer it correctly due to the shared platform with the ICE version. They have the space, use it. Everything else is lack of engineering.

It's not an obsession, people are just looking for any way possible to complain and find faults that are not there. This frunk thing and sudden obsession for hideous proportions is a really weird flex.
But it's coming from people who are not getting what they wanted (which is an exclusive BEV platform), and now have to dig for 'flaws'?

Who know, maybe the iNext has a frunk. All I know is that the BEV-ground-up iNext has a long hood.

Audi can give their rebadged Q5 a frunk, but BMW would be incapable because of what exactly......?
Seriously bro, I like your posts, but you are reaching here.
I perfectly get it, I just think you have no idea what you are talking about regarding these subjects. And I don't mean that to bully or anything, but we lack so much info it's impossible to make any kind of statement like you are making regarding lack of engineering prowess or the cost effectiveness of a shared BEV/ICE production line.

If anything, a stupid little frunk which has no use would seriously mess up the smooth design of the long hood. It would add all kinds of ugly shutlines.

Its taken them 3 years to peel off the tint and put on side mirrors. With that being said, it does look remarkably good, but most BMW Concepts do.

Also, I'd like to add that having a long hood has nothing to do with the platform per say, even though it's ICE in origin. They could have easily designed a car on that platform with the entire cabin more to the front. And include a frunk in the meantime.

Tech people can correct me if I'm wrong here.

:D, you are not to know, but this is a terrible time for such an analogy! Next week I hope to get the keys to a new house, whose previous owners are now dead... the furniture remains, there is a Nissan Almera in the garage, and a loft full of pictures!

But, I take your point, to which I'd say, 95% of my journeys see my boot, and all 4 other seats empty, the loss of the 'Froot' space just wouldn't bother me that much... I am admittedly sometimes frustrated by the inability of my compact, rear-wheel drive hatch (whose bonnet is long enough for a 6 cylinder engine, despite not needing it), to accommodate my executive camping chair, or my stowage box, due to limited space between the rear turrets and a high boot floor --- but an even smaller 'Froot', isn't going to help that... and it looks many times better than the profile of cars such as the Model III, or iPace, that all have squashed, low noses.

Tech people can correct me if I'm wrong here.

I've no idea why they couldn't put a 'Froot' in, the press release read like it's RWD, so there's not even a motor in there to worry about. From a technical point of view, I'm guessing anything in front of the suspension mountings could be shortened, but I'd suspect shortening the chassis legs etc. to get the front wheel starting at the end of the door (like the Model III, and lots of FWD cars) would be too much engineering... but that is a guess...

.. I mean, it might not look terrible...

You would accept a Porsche 718 without frunk because it has a trunk?

You would accept a Porsche 718

Let me just stop you there... nope.

without frunk

still nope...

because it has a trunk?

and still nope.

But aside from the fact I don't like Porsches, the 718 has a tiny boot and and a tiny froot, it just has small oots. The decrease in capacity in foregoing the froot is considerable. It's much less significant in cars designed to actually have a bit of storage space, such as the BMW 3 series, which doesn't have a 'froot', but still has more luggage space than a Model III, which has both oots.
