I think the gap is not logical. M5 Competition shouldn't be that much faster than E63 S because it is on par with regular M5.

Why is the regular M5 on par with an M5 Competition? It's not just a different badge on the back.

The way M5 smoked E63 S in the first test was way more than 25 PS difference between Competition and regular versions!
It was more like 911 Turbo S vs E63 S AMG!

Yeah its definitely true, as Sport Auto supertest they measured the power of the standard M5 at 671PS, a massive 71PS above claimed and also a huge 46PS above the claimed figure for the M5 Comp. So there is a big possibility that extra 25PS is hogwash and the only changes were to chassis, exhaust sound and some aerodynamic additions.

Press vehicles that have been "breathed" upon. None of these tests are remotely scientific. The data is not reliable as you'd need to test a range of customer vehicles.

No surprises. The G30 is one of the best cars BMWs have ever made. It excels in every category.

Grunt V8 exhaust note is the only thing stand out advantage the E63 has over the M5. The firmer side will also add a sense of drama if you don't mind it.

The sound at idle and crawling speeds is unmatched by any other German performance saloon, estate or SUV.

Handling and performance is light years ahead of E55s 7-14 years ago that were always significantly inferior to the M5. The gap had now closed.

The E63 S is the most exciting car here for sure, that engine noise is unrivalled and it looks the most menacing. RS5 looks like a pussy cat in comparison with this beast. M5 Comp is too digital as they say, it doesn't match the performance of the AMG and is not as aggressive looking either, it's not much different looking than a 520i M Sport. Lol
