It seems that Competition Package with 25 PS more power is not faster than the regular 600 PS version. That's maybe due to higher downforce of the Competition version.
I think it has a more aggressive aerodynamic setup. (Like GT3 vs GT3-RS)

Or that 25 PS more power makes sod all difference in the real world on a two-tonne car? It's almost as if the extra 25 PS is marketing to make the Competition Package more desirable.

It is marketing, because most standard M5s come with more power straight from the factory.
They have to do it because the average nitwit needs that for perceived added value.

But like @Karabiner98k said, it's mostly the settings and tuning of the whole car that's slightly different, not the added power.

I think the difference between regular and competition (if any) is only revealed in completely similar conditions. A drag or rolling race between the two will answer all the questions.

On same YT chanel E63S did 0-300 in 30.6s and M5 in 32.8s. Here M5 CP does in 33.7s

As far as I Know both M5 & E63 S reach 300 km/h in about 33s in this channel.

It seems that torque vectoring function of M xDrive is a handy tool for offroading!!
It passes all roller tests.

They are pretty similar
E63:

M5 CP:

Don't know how CP is slower than standard M5 in last video.

The difference in speedometer error makes all the difference.
It seems that E63's speedometer over-reads by about 5 km/h. (305 km/h = 300 km/h GPS).
And M5 over-reads by about 2 km/h (302 km/h = 300 km/h GPS).

This picture shows the real differences (Real 300 km/h):

Interesting test of you look at these tests you’d assume the xDrive system is “more intellegent” than the 4matic system in the MB.

No test of the E63S maybe it would have performed better.

And what GPS device is that ?

In last picture you can see that at higher speeds E63S starts to catch up with M5 and in other tests is faster to 300km/h.

I didn't upload that picture to tell which one is faster. I already knew that according to Autobild & AMS, E63 S is faster at higher speeds. I just wanted to remind you that comparing two cars based on speedometer reading is wrong.

You said according to this channel E63 reaches 300 km/h in 30.6 second and this is wrong. I even compared the gearings of both cars previously to show why E63 is faster at higher speeds.

The accuracy of it is good for discovering the speedometer error. And then when know the real speed, you can ignore the app and measure acceleration based on real speed from speedometer.

Yeah its definitely true, as Sport Auto supertest they measured the power of the standard M5 at 671PS, a massive 71PS above claimed and also a huge 46PS above the claimed figure for the M5 Comp. So there is a big possibility that extra 25PS is hogwash and the only changes were to chassis, exhaust sound and some aerodynamic additions.

I think BMW should forget about all the electrical mess and return to this era! The pure mechanical feel of this car and the way it handles is great! Even its body roll is lots of fun!! I think this is more fun to drive than F90 M5 Competition!

BMW will still sell you that car, it’s called the M2 Competition.

I think the gap is not logical. M5 Competition shouldn't be that much faster than E63 S because it is on par with regular M5.

I'm not sure about the M5 but the E63 S in this video is stock because 100-200 km/h in 7.4s is very much like the time measured by magazines.

The first race was ridiculous! It was as if M5 was racing against E43 AMG!
