What is something to worry is the way MB is cutting corners with the interior quality. It might not be obvious at first glance but the results are more visible with each new product they launch.

In cars like these, which cost 120k, said cost cutting should not be tollerated.

This ultimately gives AMG some freedom to do more extreme things with its offerings....
I hope BMW does not offer a GT73 rival I don’t think the technology is ready yet, like the Panny hybrid Turbo S it will be unnecessarily heavy with negligible performance. The GT63 is already 200kg heavier than the E63S how heavy will the 73 be with electrical motors ? Unless you go bespoke like the Laf, P1 and 918 hybrid tech doesn’t make sense from a performance perspective IMO.

Pretty strong verdict for a car that’s not even close to hitting the streets. You might also note I didn’t say anything about BMW having to compete with it via hybrid power- was just talking about performance.

This doesn’t make the E63 an afterthought to me; it’s just no longer the fastest 4-door in the family.

And that's what's bothering me. The E class is iconic, and all these new marketing driven cars are just hypes that will fade away. You now can't even get an E class anymore with the strongest possible engine, which makes it second grade. And the CLS is third grade together with the E coupe, lacking even the 63 engine.

F'ing lame.

If this is true it's game over for that car before it has even started selling. What a piggy McPig

The Hybrid technology might not be ready for BMWs M-Division yet but it is for Mercedes AMG.
The GT63s is heavier than the E63 because of its torsional reinforcements.
GT73 might adopt the hybrid system from the Project One which on paper most likely weighs less than the Panamera system.
Hybrid tech is quickly evolving with efficiency and weight savings.

“You can expect some technologies transferred from Project One to our other cars”, commented Tobias Moers. “We are chasing performance with hybrids, not long range. We could do that, but our first approach is a performance approach."

The talk of the reinforcements can be found in most of the first drive reviews...for example here's one from Car & Driver:

"Being 1.8 inches wider than the E63 S make its overall proportions more aggressive and helps accommodate slightly wider rubber. Numerous steel and aluminum braces beef up the GT 4-Door's body, many of which aren't present on the E63 S. There's an aluminum shear plate under the engine as well as three braces spanning the center tunnel. A carbon-fiber trunk floor helps shave weight."

Thanks - just was wanting to know.

But I thought -

Maybe, M5 does very well when there is grass on the side of the road. E63s does very well when there is no grass?
Maybe there was oil on the side of the E63S it should have won since it’s faster on the street.

I would have to disagree, BMWs quality is no better if slightly worser in some respects..there are some isolated issues, sure, but they affect the other brands too, for some reasons ( beyond me) MB is put under the pump far too harshly..

How? Have you seen how the central console of the C and E range sounds when you press it? Have you seen how poorly finished are the inner compartiments of the interior? Have you see how cheap the boot looks inside?

MB is cutting corners everywhere.

I have been in Audis with creaking parts which is the supposed benchmark in build so I don't get the point, regarding cutting costs in unimportant areas such as boots etc is no necessary bad thing imo..

In the same way central consoles cracking is not a bad thing. Except you are paying 60k for the car, and the competition is not cutting as many corners.
