3 Series (F30/F31/F34/F35) BMW F34 3er GT: Spy Pics - Renders - Info

The sixth generation of the BMW 3 Series consists of the BMW F30 (sedan version), BMW F31 (wagon version, marketed as 'Touring') and BMW F34 (fastback version, marketed as 'Gran Turismo') compact executive cars. A long-wheelbase sedan version (model code F35) was sold in China. For this generation, the coupé and convertible models were spun off to create the new BMW 4 Series nameplate. It was succeeded by the G20 3 Series, and the G26 4 Series Gran Coupé (F34). Production: October 2011 – October 2018
My younger brother is eager to see it irl. He is really considering this 3GT to be his new car, especially 320i GT Luxury Line. Well, what can i say? Love it or hate it. Just a matter of taste..

If the CLS is a banana on wheels, the 3er GT is a rhino on wheels.

It looks terribly ill conceived and I struggle to comes to grip with how it can be referred to an activity coupe. An M Touring is heaps and bounds more practical and easier on the eyes.

Guys, the added value of GTs are longer wheelbase & higher sitting position & hatch tail gate. Sedans and tourings feature lower sitting position and shorter wheelbase - so they are not as comfort oriented as GTs are. Sedan is sportier, touring is more practical due to cargo space. while GT offers more room, more comfortable sitting position and ride, and a bit more versatility due hatch tail gate and movable rear seats , compared to sedan.

So it's another car more targeted for fleet sales like the Prius which is sort of a blend of a sedan, touring and MPV??

Yes, the idea was to target fleet buyers as well - to eg buy 5er GT instead of more expensive 7er, yet most fleet buyers remained conservative, and went for 7er and 5er sedan instead. Wile taxi driers weren't offered attractice engine choice to make 5er gt more attractive. 520d GT was launched only few months ago.

But the idea behind GT is to offer a more c Nomfy car foNr the elderly, who like higher sitting position, and find sedans too low, and SUVs too high. Such customers went for crossovers, vans, small SUVs etc to cater their needs. So BMW had an idea to offer a crossover which would be comfortable, practical and stylish.

I get the 5 series GT, I have sat inside one, been inside one for good half an hour, it is quite a nice and relaxing place to be. But this 3 series GT, it is just too compromised to fulfill the job that it is designed to do.

Buy an A4/A6 Avant then...

To be honest I'm quite surprised by all the extreme hate towards this car. I think BMW already played it so safe with this car to give it a very very expected front end, that is perhaps even easier to accept than the F30 and F32's front. I mean if we all say we hate the F30/F32 then OK we should hate this but apparently that's not the case?
I agree that this car is pretty pointless, it's not big enough to have the practicality of the 5GT but still..well i don't know, i'm sure this thing will cost near the price of the F10 so this is the 5series for those who wants the higher ride height and higher trunk and of course those who love this shape. Well i agree it's frustrating to see BMW building things like these instead of a Z4 coupe, i mean you really can't tell me something like this would be the ultimate driving machine ever. it's VAG's fault perhaps.

Bullshit, by the next generations, all GTs will disappear from BMW's lineup.

Agreed. As usual when a company gets ahead of themselves and bloats their strategy up for no good, especially a luxury one who benefits from a concise enough fleet, they will just design their next Tourings or what have you to be versatile enough to give the small aspects people like from the GT's, on less compromised designs. It just seems weird that they'd develop entire new cars that do just a few little things different than a Wagon, yet have to such such sacrificial lambs in terms of design due to that. At this point they need to just streamline both together.

It seems BMW is absolutely desperate not to lose the sales crown to Audi before its centenary year in 2016, and thus feels the need to bolster the range with cars like this, no matter how little sales they drag in :censored:

Certainly one one of BMWs' less visually attractive cars. But a smart move by BMW nonetheless. In view of an ageing demographic in western/central Europe, this car will find an abundance of "mature" buyers who appreciate contortion-free exit and entering, a higher driving position offering good visibility, etc. And the 3 series GT is, in relative terms, "affordable" for many retirees. Much unlike the 5 series GT.

Depends alot on the pricing, honestly i think especially where I am, if this thing is cheaper than a F10, it will find a lot of buyers. Us here don't care too much about practicality but some do, you tell them a GT has a higher ground clearance but more fuel saving than a SUV, they love it; you tell them this thing has a high boot lid so you can put wheel chairs or whatever in the back vertically, then they think about it might be useful for their family, they go for it! And although there isn't many cars with the exact GT shape, in terms of practicality, there are competition from Japanese makers, you know they have huge wagons like the Mazda CX9 or something, and a bunch from Toyota and Honda and Nissan. The 5GT is towards the higher end, but this would be a smaller yet more premium option to those. So no i don't think the will axe the GT.
