I will explain again.
Why the M3 did not get a new facia was down to the aerodynamics. If BMW incorporated the LCi changes to the M3's facia they would need to reprofile the front of the M3 at cost, a decision BMW were faced with and again rejected on the E92 M3 as well as the previous E46 M3.

Besides the E92 M3 front end is bang on perfect.

The 1M Coupe comes as part of the LCi so the changes were incorporated when the 1M aerodynamic packet was being designed.
This scoop photograph of the 1er Coupe Active eDrive, showcases the headlights illuminated as well as the LED bar across the top of the lights.
When you see the 1M Coupe in the dark of a tunnel you will see how effective these light bars are.

These changes are brought in so the current Coupe and Cabrio will be able to sit alongside the new 1er (F20) until their replacements arrive.

In terms of the 1M Coupe as a "Skunkworks" project ?
BMW managment wanted a proposal and expected it as per usual proposal method. Unknown to them that the car was clandestinely conceived behind closed doors. So when they arrived at Garching they were confronted with a full working protoype in a cannibalised 1er Coupe which was better for explaining the whole concept.

ahhhh, so finally the return of a M product with some passion behind it, and not led by the bean counters and marketing men. Kudos this should be a great machine!

Surely it IS being led by the bean counters and marketing men if it's got the same engine as a standard BMW, and it's also being kept artificially underpowered so as not to step on the M3's toes. That is what I call marketing. :usa7uh:

^^True. But that is expected. At least BMW isn't as bad as Porsche. Also, this engine is going to be tunable like hell. Turbos are always easier to tune than NA engines. All the accessories from tuners will be awesome. I can't wait to see Vorsteiner parts for this car.

Using the same logic, why doesn't BMW tune the M5 like the 800HP GPower M5? :t-hands:

Because I think so much power would deem the car undrivable in corners.

G Power M5 is not undrivable in corners ;)
But as said by others M1 with 390 hp would kill the current M3 :)
390 hp is not the problem, M3 is. And the thing is, since day one of the release of the specs of the E92 M3, I thought 420 hp like the OLD RS4 was lame. M3 should have had around 450 hp standard (but for the waterheads at BMW, 450 hp would have been too much in relation to the M5.... And so it never stops...)

So, what do you think about the rumored 450 hp for the F32 M3? Same power as the current RS5, and the same as the M3 GTS.

The current M3 has 420 hp, which is 80 less than its contemporary M5. If the new M5 has 580 hp, the logical thing would be a 500 hp M3, anything else will be unexpected.

PD: I say 450 hp because it is what Scott has been claiming, and what appears in a lot of mags.

450 up would be great if they manage to take off 150 kg off the next M3. Otherwise, they will only be making a new M3 that's more fuel efficient than the current version...

Options might be limited on the 1M , but the choice will not be as limited as initially disclosed.

As for the M3 I would say 450 PS will be the ceiling for the road car and they will probably add to that later , as the GTS has shown that a market exists for more track orientated edition of the car and the competition package is proving popular that BMW M are looking to enhance the M3 experience with the F32 and emulate a series of extreme variants like Porsche do with the 911 and to capitalize in it's DTM return.
Although the current M3 is not finished yet.

It could also mean a CSL could return but first expect some significant reductions with the road going M3 - The first out of the stable in 2014.
Initially available in Coupe , then Cabrio format.

And here is when it gets interesting depending on your point of view.
With the Sedan expected to be not replaced.

BMW are considering the 3er Gran Turismo. Before the hatred begins.
3er GT is nothing like the 5er GT in form. It is lower and sleeker although uses the extended structure that will be found on the F30 3er Li for the Chinese market.

Think of the 3er GT as a Concept CS shrunk for the Premium Entry segment (3er). There will not be a M5 GT.

Reduction? In what? I might be confused and don't wanna take this the wrong way, but it almost seems like the M3 will be neutered out of the box to make way for more "hardcore versions" ie more profits by milking. I hope that isn't the case and I'm just interpreting this the wrong way.
