That might very well be the case (despite Scott's comments below).Haven't we simply seen the 1M's new engine in the Z4 35iS? Or are we all still holding out for a cross-flowed twin-scroll, twin-turbo unit?
Exactly, here's Scott's comment from 1addicts:May be South can confirm this but I am pretty sure that Scott stated either here or on 1addicts.com that the 1M and F30 M3 would be using the same basic engine. If true then surely BMW can stand the development costs of a completely new engine when it's to be used on two models which combined would account for a sizable amount of sales.
I seriously doubt that too.That would open up for a whole different story. I wonder if BMW would let the 1M get the engine first?
I don't believe the redline's at 7,500 rpm. The interior shots clearly show the red starting at 7.000rpm.Then how can the M1 engine be the N54 engine from the Z4 sDrive35is, if it has redline at 7.500 rpm? Again, why are they then so long testing the engine if it is the same as the one in the Z4?
