BMW 7er "Concept Active Hybrid"

Everyone gets the joke.

All the personell in that picture : Design , Engineering and Marketing are very much at the top of their game.

Wow! Didnt know u had a sense of humour Scott! For a minute i was even starting to think you were some kinda software program!! ;)

Oh, very funny. Not.

Indeed.

Guys, that lady standing next to Anders Warming is nobody else but Frau Patricia Gali Schroeder. One of the leading powertrain development engineers at BMW AG. Last I know she was responsible for V8 engine development. I don't know what's her current position though. But I guess it has either to do with V8 TT, or the V8+mild hybrid. So, either is she completely responsible for the hybrid program, or the engine development. A big shot lady.

:t-cheers:

She must still be in charge of the V8 engine cos Dr Wolfgang Epple (formerlly E90/1 Developmet Chief) is incharge of hybrids.

She might be the best engine developer in the world heck even more Stuttgart's and Maranello's but she really needs to look after her looks much more than this and do something about that hair,no offense seriously.

Yes, Dr. Epple is a chief of entire Hybrid program at BMW AG.

I really don't know Mrs. Gali position right now, but she could be a development chief of Hybrid program (eg. every project has its top chief, and then a a number of sub-chiefs: development chief, marketing chief, spokesman etc). Perhaps she's only a chief of mild-hybrid project, or 7er hybrid project, or V8+hybrid project. :t-hands: Perhaps even chief of powertrian development. :t-hands:

I'll try to find out when had some more time.

Actually, it was funny. Very funny. You not laughing about it tells more about you than me. :jpshakehe But I understand (or do I?) that it hurts you personally if such a thing is said....

I'll tell you why's not funny o me. Not because I'm bitter & bitchy. I'm only bitter & bitchy towards some ignorants who dare to call my contribution here a BS. And are now successfully added to my ignore list.

I met Mrs. Dali years ago at some autoshow. I also found her appearence to be very bimbo-ish, and initially I thought she was perhaps an exotic escort to some BMW big shot. But then she was introduced to me as a chief of V8 development. My jaw almost dropped down. I couldn't believe it. She was very kind & very intelligent. She knew her business extremely well.

Yes, here appearence is very much misleading. And I have no clue what's her agenda with such a style - which indeed is very unconventional for an engineering person. :D

Btw, she also "starred" in the "Birth of a sports car" docu by Discovery Channel - a docu about BMW E63 6-series development.

Ye goes without saying Eni. If she's there, obviously she mus be some kinda brain. Still, its quite impressive about some of ur BM inside info tho.. :usa7uh:

LMAO i can see the tranformation in you when you found out she is not a hooker but a BMW engineer..
That must have made you change your tone..
haha:D

She is truly a genius. In fact that whole photograph showcases a group of pioneers all at the top of their game in their respective field.
But BMW are truly blessed with the standard of all our employees.
Everyone from the CEO down to the production line associate every individual is a pioneer for BMW AG and that includes MINI and Rolls-Royce Motor cars.

I have total respect for each and every one of my colleagues and we all share the same passion. BMW.

Actually female members of a certain project are usually related to more "traditional female stuff" eg. marketing, PR, finance, interior design (eg. color & material choice etc) ...

It's not very common to see a female powertrian development top engineer. :usa7uh:

Especially not in a form presented by Mrs. Gali. ;)

Is she a German? Now she is. But I guess she has some Arab / North African roots. Having some exotic not-typical Continental European features. At least I got such impression when met her.

Just 20hp from electric motor, any idea of mpg figure :t-hands: ...?

It's a mild hybrid, so power (kW / hp) doesn't really matter so much. More important is a peak torque - in this case 210Nm. Since this electro motor only helps when the car is accelerating - burdening the combustion engine and thus reducing the fuel consumption. The car CAN NOT be powered by electro motor only. Full hybrid in X6 will be able to do that.

Mpg ... PR statement says -15% than the 750i. EU combined cycle.

750i = 11.4 L / 100km
750i ActiveHybrid = 9.7 L /100km (= 750i - 15%)

Eg. 740i with N64 twin turbo I6 (326HP) : 9.9L / 100km

So with 750i ActiveHybrid you get kind a "755i" (better performance figures than 750i), with better mileage even than 740i.

Guys ... I really have no time to service you anymore. USE GOOGLE!

i agree with u.
but 120-volt lithium ion battery's position differ with MB S400 HYBRID

True.

S-class: in the engine bay
7er: below the boot lid

Aftermath: 7er has better weight distribution: contributing to better handling / driving dynamics. Also since the battery is located low there is no bad influence on center of gravity.

Yet due boot lid location more wiring is needed, there for MB solution is cheaper (closer to electro motor: less wiring, less electric energy loss due shorter wiring).

Sooooooooo this car is not like the Prius? In other words the electric engine just works as a torque booster as an alternative for higher displacement?

Yup and same goes for the S400 hybrid too. Both are 'mild hybrids'. No one is going to move a 2 ton car with just 20 HP (and 160 Nm for MB and 210 Nm for BMW) motor on small Li ion batteries at any reasonable speed with out running out of juice in 2 minutes.

On the other hand the LS600H is a full hybrid. I am not sure how much the 2 motors in LS600H makes, but I have read it is about 220 HP though for some odd reason they combine with 389 Hp petrol engine only to make a total of 438HP. Anyway the Lexus weighs 700lbs more than the LS 460 so all that power is moot (vs the 165lbs of extra weight the Germans carry).

Exactly. That's the way soft-hybrid (aka mild-hybrid) works. It's the same in S-class & 7-series. One electro motor incorporated into gearbox - too boost torque when accelerating.

The other solution - the solution develobed by Daimler, GM & BMW - is on the other hand "Prius-like" full hybrid which is enable to power the car via electro motor only, via combustion engine only, or combined (eg. to boost acceleration). It also features two electro motors, much bigger high-capacity battery, and revolutionary (?) two-mode active ECVT transmission - which also enables fixed gear ratios, and using 2 modes: one for setting off & low speeds, the othe rone for high speeds.

Such solution is able to reduce fuel consumption by 20% compared to a car with same engine but w/o Hybrid tech.

Such full-hybrid solution will also be offered in 2009 (just like mild-hybrid) - yet in X6 initially (mild hybrid in 7er initially). Soon many other full & mild hybrids will follow. Especially in the X-series, and the larger cars (PAS, 7er, 5er).

Eg. X6 fuel consuption figures:
X6 xDrive 50i EU cycle: 12.5L / 100km
X6 ActiveHybrid xDrive50i (-20%): 10L / 100km

:t-cheers:

The Lexus in particular is useless. The LS600hl is no faster than the LS460L in most tests nor can it add any meaningful fuel economy gains over the LS460L either. Its a pointless vehicle.

The BMW will be different hopefully.

M

I haven't followed the Lexus at all so I wouldn't know. I would have thought it would be pretty good in the city though, since it's a full hybrid.

I read somewhere today that this hybrid is supposed to be a bit faster than the regular version. Maybe optimistic, so we'll see :usa7uh:
