imo hybrids are and will be pointless until they come up with a completely new battery which can store way more energy than the current lit ion that they are using and has a greater cycle life. What is the point in having to replace your huge battery pack in 5-6 years time costing you more than you have saved through “fuel efficiency” for that period(unless u are running 100% on it) ? And then someone has to recycle the batteries you just replaced using energy which most likely came from oil.

We need this to become reality:
EEStor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Or this:
Nanowire battery can hold 10 times the charge of existing lithium-ion battery

Oil companies are terrified…100% electric car is their worst nightmare. Batts like the ones above can very well allow that to happen. I believe we are in for a great show during the next 10 years http://imageshack.us

Otherwise… just buy diesel. : )

I just can't wait to see what happens to the LS600hL when the MB and BMW hybrids go on sale. The point of a hybrid is save gas, not performance. The performance hybrid concept hasn't done well here in the U.S, outside of the LS600hL. Production is kept low so Lexus can say that they're "sold out", and old trick.

I don't 100% agree with you on this one. I believe that hybrids should be able to save fuel in the right situation aka city driving. But when you need the acceleration in such a big car, that's when you get what you need with a V8, which I want to add is more economical due to the TT. In a car in this category, fuel economy is important, but not as important as power... i am a true petrolhead :t-drive:

i agree with u.
but 120-volt lithium ion battery's position differ with MB S400 HYBRID

Who is that lady? looks like a tv(no offense)she definitely needs a hairdo:D
I've seen her very often when i was at BMW - more than I wished to!:D
She has (believe it or not) a very high position at the R&D department of the BMW Group. I've heard that she's at Bangle's level but for the engineering part :t-hands:

The Lexus in particular is useless. The LS600hl is no faster than the LS460L in most tests nor can it add any meaningful fuel economy gains over the LS460L either. Its a pointless vehicle.

The BMW will be different hopefully.

I was under the impression the S hybrid and this was using the same hybrid components but guess not, looks like the 7er electric motor makes way more torque (210 Nm vs 160Nm). Add the 8 speed transmission and V8TT and I won't be surprised if the 7er actually got better mileage and of course better performance.

Indeed.

Guys, that lady standing next to Anders Warming is nobody else but Frau Patricia Gali Schroeder. One of the leading powertrain development engineers at BMW AG. Last I know she was responsible for V8 engine development. I don't know what's her current position though. But I guess it has either to do with V8 TT, or the V8+mild hybrid. So, either is she completely responsible for the hybrid program, or the engine development. A big shot lady.

:t-cheers:

Actually, it was funny. Very funny. You not laughing about it tells more about you than me. :jpshakehe But I understand (or do I?) that it hurts you personally if such a thing is said....
