Too much camouflage :(

And, even with this amount of camo, and taking into account the fake rear, the car looks promising. There is clearly a market for these cars abd, with MB lost with the so-so CLS mk2, BMW can steal some good sales from Audi.

^ MB lost it with the R class, that's what BMW had in mind when making the 5er GT. Not the CLS obviously.

I wish MB did another R class, or something more similar to the 5er GT. R class was pretty awesome imo.

Was it RWD?

Yes. And there was an RWD R63 AMG too with 510 ps. Good times.
Maybe there were versions with 4matic too. Probably, but base was RWD

Imagine what the 2er gran tourer could have been...

I don't see any connection. It could (should) have been RWD, but compared to an R class the 2er GT would be a small budget car. The LWB R class is as long as a 7er!

I also meant the trunk. It's the real line, according to me of course, just like many people thought that the third window in the panamera mules was fake.

Well you might have been right for the Panamera but it's really like comparing apples to oranges imo, this is a dfferent case from a different brand so I see no piint in comparing them.
But I can very much tell you right now that that trunk is camo. There is no question.

I've highlighted the 'CSL' style bit of the camo that's fake, compare it to other spyshot on the right. It looks like they built a fairing to cover the retractable spoiler.

I also thought I'd try and match it up to an A7.

Either the wheel base of the GT is much smaller than an A7, or it is still a hunchback in comparison...

edit: using another A7 photo, slightly different angle..

The second part. Because the GT is supposed to be roomy inside, it's a case of form follows functions.

Indeed, and I've got no problem with that personally. However I don't think any suggestion that they've really done much to move it into A7 (or CLS) territory would really hold up. Either form or function, I predict people are still going to complain about its tall ass.

And the ride height is a lot higher

The R-class is a brilliant family car, it is hugely spacious and practical inside and extremely comfortable. The FL version looked much better than the preFL oval light version.

And the ride height is a lot higher

I think there's about 34mm in it between the A7 and current 5GT, which is noticeable.

It's a bit of a misconception that the 5GT was jacked up though. It only rode 4mm higher than a standard F10, and to me, that's not so noticeable.

Here is a comparison between 5GT, A7 and R-class (Short Wheelbase) in dimensions:

Length:
A7 - 4974mm
5 GT - 4998mm
R-class SW - 4922mm

Wheelbase:
A7 - 2914mm
5 GT - 3070mm
R-class SW - 2980mm

Width:
A7 -1910mm
5 GT - 1901mm
R-class SW - 1958mm

Height:
A7 -1420mm
5 GT - 1559mm
R-class SW -1661mm
