5 Series (G30) BMW 5 Series (G30/31/32) Spy Pics & Info Discussion

The BMW G30 is the seventh generation of the BMW 5 Series. Body styles: (G30) (sedan), (G31) (wagon), (G38) (LWB sedan). Predecessor: 5 Series (F10). Successor: 5 Series (G60). Production: 2016-2023.
BMW should get a folding mechanism, stat!
Don't see the point in that. I for one check the screen quite frequently to change radio channel/song when I drive. Would be an unnecessary pain in the arse waiting for it to appear.

Then there's the added weight and size of the mechanism and most likely some noise and play/shake down the line.

I like BMW's take on it now. Aesthetically and ergonomically appealing to me.

Well, then you and I use it differently. For my part, I almost always find them glued-on iPads "in the way".

I think the floating screen on BMWs are meant for an airer and more spacious at the dash which I think it dose really work, whrs MB goes for a more solid and staple dash design, it all really depends on individual's preference. from experience, for myself I like the ones on BMW since my family own both BMW and MB.

New article by Kacher on Car Magazine regarding the M5. It seems the car will be using the same engine the current F10 M5 30 Jahre uses. Same output and power figures.

So yeah, it seems a potential performance improvement will come from a reduction in weight.

Like I thought, 600 hp for the standard model. There'll be a Competition Edition down the road with around 650 hp.

The updated V8 in the 30 Jahre is certainly no slouch and will make the perfect bedfellow for the F90.

Why is it called an F90?

Why not G90?

Yeah it's strange, but BMW nowadays has a separate code name for the M models, outside of the regular cars. Like how the F30 3er becomes F80 M3.
But why no G90 for the G coded cars, I wouldn't know. It's quite poor like this actually. No sense to be made.

Probably the most powerful engine from German makers. It's a crazy powerful engine. On paper the AMG V12 is more powerful, but in real life it is absolutely not. But that party has to do with the piggy cars they put the V12 in.

Now if they manage the weight of the new M5 better than the current one, it's going to be a dream ride for sure.

Do the undoubtedly German-developed W12 and W16 engines from VAG not count either?
Or is that the idea behind your "German makers" phrase?

Probably the most powerful engine from German makers..

Don't forget the V12 in the M760Li is supposed to be 610hp, and have 100Nm more torque than the M5 30 Jahre.

edit: Or the 623hp V12 in the Wraith.

So it's likely this won't even be the most powerful engine offered by BMW, nevermind the other Germans.

Yes, of course. The N74B66 in the M760Li and the Wraith have more power (610hp in the 7er and 632hp (DIN) in the Wraith).

I think @klier meant "probably" in a Carlsberg sense. :D

LOL!

The M5 30 Yrs or M5 Competition Edition (both 600 hp) are likely faster than both though. With better acceleration as well (even without AWD).
I meant the strongest engine in the type of car, if that makes sense? I mean, the V12 might be more powerful as an engine by itself, but it also has to haul cars 300 kg more heavy. The M760Li xDrive weighs a whopping 2255 kg EU. The F10 M5 weighs 1945 kg EU.....And the F90 M5 might end up weighing little over 1800 kg (hopefully!!).

If you remove the fake rear, it looks almost like an A7.
