5 Series (G30) BMW 5 Series (G30/31/32) Spy Pics & Info Discussion

The BMW G30 is the seventh generation of the BMW 5 Series. Body styles: (G30) (sedan), (G31) (wagon), (G38) (LWB sedan). Predecessor: 5 Series (F10). Successor: 5 Series (G60). Production: 2016-2023.
Thank you so much @Giannis!!!

Regarding the latest spy pics. I have to say the 5er Gt or 6er GT or whatever it is, looks really improved compared the current one. I would love a more A7-ish profile for the car this time.

I agree. If it's priced the same as the previous generation, You get a lot of value for your money.

The deliberate over done wrapping of the tail lights - is it meant to bring back a bit of the E60 ultra wrapping?

I bring you a gift.

Is it only me or is the infotainment screen in this shot looking like the Ipad type screens in most Mercs and latest Audi A4?

Uhm, in what alternative universe didn't BMW come with this first?

It does look quite high and small in width, nothing like the screen on the 7er.

Maybe just a prototype.

I honestly hope BMW dont change their infotainment screens to the Ipad style, it would be a step backwards from their current screens as the Ipad style in most the Mercs and now Audi A4 has been given negative remarks from most magazines.

The interior is not fully finished. It will look like the one in the 7er with the chrome trim around the edges.

Most likely it will be exactly the same as the 7er screen. Probably the cheapest way to make the car too, with economy of scale.

I hope the probable optional smaller screen isn't to a bad design and quality, like the black plastic sea in the smaller E screen option

Well the BMW solution is a standalone screen, where the MB alrady has the 'real estate' surrounding the screen. So with a smaller screen you end up with space not used in the E, and BMW can simply put a different (smaller) screen wih thin borders because it's free standing.

It may be, but the BMW screens are way better done than the ones in Audi or Merc.
Well only the screens with the Nav system fitted look better as the basic screen in the 3-series doesn't look that attractive also with its thick plastic border surround.

Nope. BMW screen in 7er sucks compared to new E and S facelift. It feels like an add-on and is peculiarly shaped. Audi also better than BMW. Sorry..

Hmmm, interesting view. I think that the 7 series screen is actually quite attractive. I like how its traditional, in the sense it uses a a separate screen in the shape of a traditional cockpit, which, IMO suits cars in this class a lot better, and a screen which looks right at home onto of the dash. (all angled towards the driver)

Whereas this, although to a high standard and very attractive, seems pretty simple in the sense of two screens being joined together, which doesn't seem very traditional or conservative in these types of cars. I do love the S interior, especially the flowing nature and the bottom of the dash, but the two screens don't seem very driver orientated to me.

I don't think 'driver oriented' is what this segment strives for. These are limo's, for all intents and purposes. And as the flagships of their respective brands, the goal here is simply luxury in its purest form.

Apples and oranges I guess ;)

I think I just prefer traditional designs

That would imply you prefer the W222 over the 7er. What with its timepiece (IWC in case of the AMG's), hand polished wood, traditional wood/leather steering with inset inscription. It's hard to pull off 'traditional' better than MB. :)

I think they're both great cars in their own right. I sat in the new 7er at the DC auto show earlier this year and was thoroughly impressed. Similarly, seeing the S-class hold its own in sales 3.5 years later is a testament to the great job Daimler has done with their flagship.

Let's hope the competition (Lexus, Audi, Cadillac, Maserati) can truly step up the game because, at the moment, these two are running away with it.
