The evolutionary changes to the new S compared to the previous version are obvious and progressive. Not the baby steps BMW takes with it`s models.

It's because they're more sculptural compared to the previous gen's, that's why they carry the perception of being vastly different when in reality, they are evolutionary too. It's like in the 90's when cars became more rounded, it was a revolutionary thing. As far as details go, MB's models are now evolution's of each other so they are now a part of the evolutionary club with Audi & BMW.

The 3 series coupe and now the 4 series are far too important for BMW to push the design envelope, they did with the 1st gen 6 series when Bangle was in charge.

The previous C class coupe never really looked like an original idea, it looked and left like a car that was not part of the original design and engineering process, and that is probably true, so it is a good thing that the new coupe doesn't look anything like the previous C.

I agree, but the previous C Class coupe was the same as every single BMW 3er coupe. A shorter version of the sedan. Not an original idea by any means.
That's my problem with the 4er. It doesn't look like a car designed to be a coupe, it's just the 2 door version of the 3er. Why differentiate it calling it the 4 if they are going to make it look the same anyway?

Also, BMW should start giving the last 2 numbers of the name according to the horsepower, so the 180 hp 3 series is the 318 and the 300 hp version is the 330.

That was a bit of an off topic but had to be said :D

When I say original, I mean Mercedes didn't plan to have the coupe version of the W204 when designing the car, MB left it to the much mangled "E" coupe to compete with the 3 coupe.

Calling it a 4 series is much like MB replacing the CLK name with the "E coupe". At the very least BMW gave the 4 series a slightly different front end to the 3 series.

Calling the 4er a 2 door version of the 3er is completely silly to begin with. The 4er is the most coupe-like coupe from all the generations of 3er coupes.

It is true for the exterior styling but we all know under the skin, the 4er is a 2 door version of the 3er.

As it has always been, yes. Nothing new there ;)

The basic design of the F30 platform is made with both the coupe and sedan in mind, and I have this feeling the C coupe is still an afterthought compared to the sedan.

The previous C coupe, definitely, the new gen, probably not considering it is launched only a year after the sedan, having said that it seems MB is trying to minimize the development cost to create the coupe.

No it's not. Calling it the E Coupe is the opposite.

If the front end is slightly different, sorry but I just can't tell at a quick glance. They did a wonderful job at hiding it. The E92 was slightly different unlike the 4. Maybe not a single panel is shared with the F30, but it still looks like it is. Sorry, it's just an opinion.

Completely silly? Then what is it? You are looking at the car with analytical eyes. If that's the case, I can tell you a 1966 bug is way different to a 1969. Even under the skin. Does most people, even car enthusiasts, notice it? No.

If the chassis was designed to be shared with the coupe it was to cut costs I'm sure.

You can tell me the car's chassis was designed to be a coupe and that it is the cat's pajamas. But in the end, if performance is what you are after, just get a Mustang or a Z/28. You get the same performance (probably better) at half the price.

If a German coupe is what you are looking for, then go for the Benz, at least the interiors won't feel like they belong in a VW. Sorry but that's what they did.

I can find as much positives for the BMW as I find cons. But it seems like it's either bash the C or bash the 4. I'll defend the C from the BMW fanboys this time :D

I disagree with everything you said, but this one stands out the most. When you can make a flawless coupe on the base of a sedan the chassis must be brilliant indeed.
The C coupe, unlike the C sedan, shows packaging issues.

Of course they can make a coupe on the sedan chassis. Especially if they look the same.

The "packaging issues" you and SCOTT27 see are nothing but the classic fastback proportions. High boot, low roof, and wide ass.

I'll end it here. I don't want more disagreement with you, it seems like I'm arguing for the sake of arguing. I just don't consider the 4er superior in any way. Probably handles better, but who knows?

Oh don't worry, it's nothing personal at all. You're a great user and we're glad to have you here! Let's agree to disagree then, this will lead to nothing indeed.

Yeah I didn't take it personal, just saying what you said, it's a never ending discussion because fans from both cars will make arguments in favor of the car they/we like, and sometimes I personally sound like I'm just arguing for the fun of it haha

Both look nice but i went with the BMW 4. Actually got mine this week :D
Love the side kidney thing allot. Also the first picture of BMW should have been with the M sport front. So much nicer.

You know what they say... Pics or didn't happen :D
