I don't like the idea of wrapping.
I want the roof mostly because I like it's shape

Air whisper?I can answer that one for you if you want: no, the cost will outweigh the result completely.
You can make one yourself though, and replace the metal/alu parts![]()
Seriously though, the weight savings won't come from a CF roof instead of a steel one. The cabrio is heavier because of added structural strength (the car is completely pillarless).
BTW, guys, BMW has stolen yet another MB invention (after M4 seat-gate): air scarf (or whatever BMW will call it) will be available as an option. Funny stuff:

The era of metal folding roofs at BMW might be coming to an end. According to a source close to our sister-magazine Bimmertoday, not only the jointly developed with Toyota BMW Z4 successor will use a soft top, but also the next generation G23 4 Series Convertible. The source says a decision has already been made.
In early, 2007, the BMW E93 3 Series Convertible switched to a three-piece folding metal roof and it was followed by the Z4 E89 roadster as the first BMW roadster with a steel roof. Then in March 2014, BMW followed through with the 3 Series Convertible successor, the F33 4er cabriolet which also features the hardtop.
The next generation 4 Series convertible will launch in 2021, so we don’t expect to see test mules on the road for another 4 years.
We’re unable to speculate what has led to the change and what BMW reasons are for making the switch, but a couple ideas come to mind. One, the metal folding roofs take a lot of space in the trunk, and two, BMW might be looking to shave some weight of the next generation 4 Series and this is a good place to start.
