Hot! Audi: What's Next?

Trending discussions, standout car designs, major automotive developments, industry shifts, reviews, and topics generating strong community interest.
The lineup letting alone the few models is desastrous indeed.
Except the doubtful results Mercedes is the only one that has a kind of a copy-paste design language.
Looking that the design trendsetters are now brands from Korea, France and some US newcomers, the Big Trio has to start from scratch.

For now only BMW seem to be completely reimagined with the NK, even though it’s terryfying that Van Hoodonk who has no vision for the brand since over a decade puts his hands on it.
Anyway, I hope they won’t miss that opportunity.
While risking being off topic, I would say BMW has already presented a new styling direction that looks good, recognisable and original.

Neither Audi or MB can say the same.

I think the (r)evolutionary design language of Audi is gonna look good, ie, the upcoming A5 and Q5.

Not so much the Q6 e-Tron or A6 e-Tron though.

Mercedes had a great vision for the EQ Brand, however the final production vehicles looked nothing like the Vision, and in fact just look shit.

Exactly what I mean in the previous post.
Now we just have to hope they won’t screw it up. Seeing the spy pics of the NK SUV I’m affraid what’s left from the Vision, but time will tell.

I understand that it refers to the fact that BMW has already presented a new style direction currently (which started a few years ago) in all its current lines on sale,

It's not consistent though. The 4er and 7er have the bucktooth grilles. The 5er and 3er just have bigger versions of the previous gen grilles and the XM has the warthog nostrils.
It's all markedly different.

Precisely, the three sausages diferent size "were", a new direction with well-differentiated stylistic variants for each model, an important part of its current success as a strategy outlined a few years ago and I am talking about the overall design of the cars, not just the grilles.
And don't settle for that, which has them as No. 1, they outline the NK to continue well at the top...... a lot of work

Exactly. They try something with each launch, but the lineup is an utter chaos.

Looking back they had a coherent design language, even in the Bangle era, each model was strikingly differen’t but yet the clear design language was defining the whole lineup. With the NK I hope they will clean up that mess and bring the brand identity back.

For Audi I think they would have a winner if they would look back to the 90’s, early 2000. The big grille has to go, it’s becoming worse with each gen/facelift. Also the BEV’s don’t need that.
It would be nice to see a clean emotional lookback.

The big grille was striking when Audi introduced it, but it's been done to death and lost is lustre. Audi needs a new corporate face.
Besides styling, I'd also like to add: there's no USP for them right now. AWD is no longer unique to them (and Subaru), no cutting edge engines, nor materials (remember the push for aluminum? )

Wide-Arch Audi RS5 Avant Calls Out The Skinny BMW M3 And Mercedes C63 AMG

Latest spy shots reveal the true width of the hot hybrid wagon’s swollen fenders

Audi’s RS sedans and wagons aren’t always the most exciting or flamboyant cars to drive, even if they’re not short of performance. But when the covers finally come off this RS5 either later this year or early in 2025, we have a serious hunch it’s going to easily beat its BMW M3 Touring and Mercedes C63 wagon in a visual pose down.

Just look at the width of the thing. It’s absolutely enormous, an almost grotesque parody of the sensible new A5 Avant that’s spent three hours every night for the last year working delts in the gym. And we wouldn’t have it any other way. The front fenders are so wide that Audi’s been able to make space for an air vent just behind the front wheel, and though the rear arches look like placeholder extensions rather than the finished complete rear quarter panels, the wheels are pushed so far out that the real fenders are guaranteed to be equally wide.

We’ve seen the RS5 testing before, but the prototype in these latest shots has lost the camo wrap on its grille mesh revealing a double diamond pattern. Also visible are a new set of triple-five-spoke forged alloy wheels and Audi’s latest matrix LED headlights whose LED segments can shine individually to provide different patterns and messages.

If you’re wondering why we’re calling this an RS5 rather than an RS4 it’s because Audi is moving its ICE cars into odd-numbered badged and reserving even numbers for EVs. So while there almost certainly will be an RS4 along eventually, it’ll be battery-powered, while the combustion wagon gets an RS5 badge, something previously used by the top-performing versions of the old A5 two-door coupe and A5 Sportback four-door coupe lines.

That’s not all that’s new for the RS5. It’s going hybrid, though that doesn’t mean it’s downsizing to a four-cylinder powertrain like its Mercedes-AMG C63 rival has done. No, the RS5 is reportedly sticking with 2.9-liter V6 power but will add hybrid assistance to improve both power over today’s 444 hp (450 PS), and improved efficiency with it.

It’ll be interesting to see if Audi Sport configures its PHEV system to deliver power at the expense of range (the AMG can only do 8 miles / 13 km on a charge of its tiny 6.1 kWh battery), but we won’t know that until nearer the launch. One thing we do know is that the RS5 is going to need a huge horsepower injection to keep up with the AMG, which cranks out a massive 671 hp (680 PS).

Yuck. The 8Y has been horrible looking since launch and this facelift does nothing to help it.

I like the new A3 All Street, quite a funky jacked up hatch.

I think I should watch it IRL, and hold back the vomit until that, at the moment and in that photo I see it opposite to the best Audi design currently which is the Q8, that yellow looks like something from BYD honestly

I'm not a fan of that "tooth" headlighs (the same as before and in the A8), but now with facelifted bumpers it all looks a lot better. However I also think that this All Street version doesn't look good.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
