A8/S8 Audi S8 Spyshots

It it just a bit more faster than a S500, thats all...

Never judge a car by how it does in 0-100 km/h. It's the 0-200 km/h and 100-200 km/h accelerations which show how fast a car is and i 'm quite certain that S8 will humiliate the S500 in those.

Yes, the car is defentely faster then the 6.0 W12.

5.1 to 5.2 seconds to 100 km/h and then the difference will increase for sure to 200 km/h.

A tenth of a second is no big deal at all!

It better be better in 100-200km/h. Otherwise Audi has some explaining to do. Dont you guys feel its too close if that the case! Especially for an S model.

i actually like the direction audi is taking, focus more on dynamic rather than straight line performance just as they stated that they are quitting the horsepower war, just another example of audi "never follows". ;)

Then why bother to make such a model (S8). If thats the case its not a necessity to their line-up. Unless they are trying to follow/keep up with other brands, which in this case they needed to step up to the plate, they already had a winner (A8). Could've left it at that, but instead they went further to pursue AMG/M etc.... Which is perfectly understandable, but at least come out swinging, not warming the bench.

Well the RS6 will have 550hp and also the RS4 is the more powerful car in it's class right now so it doesn't sound to me that they have quitted the HP war.

what i meant was that the s8 is audi's interpretation of high performance luxury sedan, just like mb amg's interpretation of high performance is produce cars with massive torque and horsepower.
instead of goin after the s-class amg with powerful, big engine, they chose less powerful engine but focus more on a balanced package.
the "never follow" part in my previous post has a lil sarcastic tone in it, cuz we all know it's just some marketing scheme.
anyway, i hope i made my point clear.

"Never Follow" has it's meaning. Just like "Nothing to Prove". :D

This S8 is way underpowered for a V10!
Thay could have used a N/A V8 with the same power rating and actually saved a little more weight, whats the point :bangin:

It`s tame looking as well, thats an Audi signature as this is not an R version.
I kind of like the subtle details.

No its not. 450 Hp is alot for a 5.2 litre V10. Just because the M5 makes more HP doesnt mean that 450 is a bad power number. They also detuned it on purpose so they could make the difference between the S6 and the RS6.

Pretty weak IMO. but seeing that this is not an RS model it`s not so bad.
(The V10 should be exclusively for the RS models IMO.)

The 5.2 lt V10 is essentially an evolution of the 5.0 lt V10 used in Gallardo which makes 520 hp in Gallardo SE , so Audi with increased volume and FSI could have made this engine to produce at least 520-530 hp. But Audi believes (just like BMW) that a sedan so big like the A8 doesn't need so much power cause it's the overall package that counts. Instead of focusing on the power the tried to make the car more balanced, safe and easy to drive on a daily basis.
That said as an Audi fan i wish they used a more powerful version of the same engine.

PS. Power is nothing without control. Ask Lindsay if you don't believe me. :eusa_danc :D

Well said, well said Yannis. :usa7uh: I think that hp only means so much, w/ all that we've been given by MB and many other makers, our appetites have been overcompensated for, and we forget that power is indeed not everything. I'd rather have a car that could utilize the power it has than a car that has huge hp numbers and no capability of handling it all. Weight will be the new craze soon enough. :usa7uh:

It really should make more power besides its already a sturdy car..

S8 weights only 120 kgr more than M5 while it's a class above in terms of size and it has the extra AWD parts so it's relatively lightweight.

How does the S8 compare with the 760 and the S600 in terms of speed. That question is imminent because it's the real market the S8 is competing in. If its quicker then it can compete in todays world. I know BMW 6.0 litre only produces like 438 hp (but im sure its nicely delivered).

I 'm sure the new S600 will be a lot heavier than S8 perhaps 200-300 kgr more. That should give S8 a significant advantage.

How much will the car cost, more than 100k? 5.2 is fast but it should be faster since the S500 does 0-100km/t in 5.6 sec.

I thought the S500`s factory time was 5.4sec.
Those times are very close seeing the S500 has 62 less hp.
Whats up with that. :icon_cool

Why dont you guys wait until the cars have been tested by a carmag.
Even if S500 and S8 are close up to 100 the S8 will be much faster the faster you drive. S8 has a lot more power than a regular S500.

I guess MBs fast 0-100 are due to 7G-Tronic and higher torque figures ..

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
