A8/S8 Audi S8 Spyshots

Why dont you guys wait until the cars have been tested by a carmag.
Even if S500 and S8 are close up to 100 the S8 will be much faster the faster you drive. S8 has a lot more power than a regular S500.

Ahh. The voice of reason finally speaks!

I certainly agree here, this is such a bad pre-judge of the car... lets see what happens with performance when it comes....

We`re not literally comparing these two cars as thay shouldn`t be. (You should know better than that.) It`s just amazing how MB seem to make better use of it`s power band, and most likely get better gas milage than the Audi S8 where it matters most!

You really don`t know if the S8 is much faster the faster you drive.
A lot of members thought the C6 Corvette convertible 6-speed would be a lot faster than the SLK55 couse it has 45 more hp and 50 more lb-ft and weights almost 200lbs. less, but the SLK55 can keep up mainly due to the G7 which makes damn good use of the power band.

The true voice of reason would tell you to wait for the S63 AMG to start literally comparing stuff like 0-200km/h!!

Wait a sec. The W221 S55 AMG is just around the corner, it will get a powerboost from 500 to 517hp. MoterWeek said the W220 S55 was the best
big car thay ever tested. The W221 S55 should have even better driving dynamics!

Lol GTA, You believe what you want and I belive what I want.
Im comparing S8 with S500 since you guys started it and not S63.

Thats bad logic Just_me!
I couldn`t have explained myself any easier than I did and you come up with an answer like that. :eusa_snoo

there is no logic. Wait for the mags to test the cars, now its just speculations. Yannis say S8 weight less than S500 and S8 has more power than S500. I just cant see the S8 loose. :eusa_naug

The car mags will compare the S8 to the S55/S63 AMG cause these are sport models. The Audi A8 is a prime compeditor to the S500 as well as the 745i.

What do you mean there is no logic. :jpshakehe

The S8 would get creamed against a S55, that is probably the right car in concept to compare it too, but idealistically the S500 should be the proper comparison. But again, we will see what the mags will do... it cant be that far away.

of course a S8 is a comepetitior against AMG but since it you guys that started to compare it with S500 im just saying that S8 will be a faster car than S500 cause S8 has more power and weigh less than S500 according to Yannis. If you guys didnt mention S8 vs S500 I wouldnt say anything either.

Corvette is a slow car, much slower than expected. It seems like the germans are better to get the power to the ground or GM are way to optimistic with their times.

Here is some results from European carmag

C6 (not the convertible) / SLK55 / M3
0-100km/h 5.2 / 4.8 s / 4.8 s
0-200km/h 16,8 s / 16,8 s / 16,8 s

Source: Sportauto.

Im certain that Z4 M will be faster than C6 as well.

Just wait for the carmags to drive the cars and then let's see who is wrong or right. Now its pure speculations...

God!!, sometimes I really don`t understand you guys! did you even read my post? we were comparing how the S500 makes better use of it`s power band
with less hp.

So if the S8 competes with the S500 whats the A8 here for. :t-banghea

(The S8 might also be a limited production model much like the S55/S63)

Of course S63 will be faster than S8, that I agree on but since you guys started to compare S8 with S500 , Im just saying what I believe.

BTW There is a rumour that S8 will have the same price as S500 in Sweden.

I agree get rid off it!

J/K, i think they are both on the same level. Because even Audiholic pointed out that the W12 version is only a tenth of a second slower than the S8. It just a done up version of the A8, personally i feel they are on the same level. A8/S8

Here's Road & Track's numbers for the M3 competition package coupe and the C6 Corvette coupe and convertible
C6 coupe / C6 conv./ M3
0-60mph: 4.5 / 4.8 / 4.8
0-100mph: 9.8 / 11.2 / 12.0
1/4 mile: 12.8@114.5 / 13.2@107.9 / 13.4@105.6

Thats nice but as you see, performance change from carmag to carmag. But thats hardly a newsflash.

Yes and test by test, but in general it seems like sometimes European magazines don't get as good numbers with American cars as do American magazines.

I've seen at least three european carmags where C6 took 0-100km/h in more than 5 sec.

American Magazines:
Road & Track: 4.8 and 4.5 another time
Car and Driver: 4.3
Motor Trend: 4.4
Automobile: 4.7

It seems 4.2 as quoted by Chevrolet is a bit optimistic. They aren't exactly known for quoting things conservatively (as German marques are).

I don't think it would take that much longer to go 2.138889 more mph. Maybe it comes down to the way the magazines quote their figures. Road & Track does runs in opposite directions and gives averages, but I don't know how the other magazines do it.

We shouldnt forget that all carmags dont meassure the acceleration the same. Some have two people in the car some only use one. Then someone has a full tank and someone might use a tank with not much fuel.
As you can see, the acceleration to 100km/h was slower than M3 and SLK55 but to 200km/h, the acceleration was the same for all cars. When meassure 0-100km/h then the start has to be very good. A bad start and the 0-100 time wont be good, it all up to the driver.

Or maybe is so easy that american carmags do the best they can to make their car look good on paper, I mean they might write a better time than they actually got and same goes for germancarmags :t-hands: Its something we cant proove but who reall knows.

BTW what does "polotics" mean?

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
