Not when you consider it competes against the 6-Series.![]()
that depends on who you ask, not everyone thinks its compete with 6er.
In sweden there is going to be a 1.8T with 170hp for A5 and a very low price (lower than the topversion of Volvo V70). The cheapest 6er cost almost 3 times more than the cheapest A5.
So in my opinion A5 compete with 3er Coupe and not 6er.
Also the A5 is getting similar prices as A4 here in Sweden. Another reason why it doesnt compete with 6er.

Fair enough, well I guess the lower models will compete against the 3-Series ware the S/RS5 versions will go against the 6-Series.
Do you really think so? In NA we only get the 650i... where the V8 A5 ?
IMO, it's sorta like with the CLK, in between the 3er & 6er... only the A5 i would consider closer to the 3er.
All I know is that I had the money to shop for a 6er, I wouldn't even consider the A5. But to each his own I guess.
I don't understand your first paragraph.
This will not compete against the 6er, Audi was aiming directly at the 3er with this, hence the similar pricing but as usual the Audis are more expensive. Get what you pay for I guess. Audi has been saying for a long time they need a competitor for the 3er coupe. And the RS5 wil compete against the M3 not any 6er.
Audis are usually cheaper than BMW's and Mercedes' in the UK.![]()

I know I'm a bit late to write my opinion of the A/S5!
I am, overall very unimpressed, the car looks so bland and boring, if this shows what the next A4 is going to look like, that's not so good. Also, I think the interior has great attention to detail, but overall, along with some other audi interiors, A6, Q7 included, they look outdated to me, sure they are amazing quality but make all the plastics shiny and hard to the touch, and they would look right at home in the 1980s!
Second that.
While Audi executes superb craftsmanship on their cars - inside & outside - the design, despite looking clever, smooth, elegant is too understated & too bland. Unexciting, unispired, uninteresting.
Still many customers lust for such a premium car. Good for Audi. But definitely not my taste.
Having sat in most current Audi, BMW & MB vehicles I can say Audi is the most bland design. BMW is definitely the most crazy design, and even MB design is more emotional.
But OK, such technocratic pure industrialistic smooth design (Bauhaus) is a part of Audi trademark (Vorsprung durch Technik).
Eg. the most praised design are usually Alfa Romeo cars, Ferrari cars, Aston Martin cars - all of them very emotional designs. Nothing to do with pure industrialism.
Audi, move on! Get emotional!![]()
Well put but pretty funny!![]()

Why funny? Audi is one fine company which makes superb cars.
Problem? They are not according to my tastes. I'm too dynamic & extravagant / avantgarde & youthful person to see myself driving an Audi.
Too me Audi cars are too clinical. Almost like Toyota / Lexus: great cars, but lacking emotional appeal.
But that's due different tastes people have: some like sweet, some sour. Some love black, some white. Some cold, some hot. So some like dynamic avantgarde & emotional cars, some like more understated & mechanical appearence.
Why am I complaining about Audi so much? Because I would like to drive a car like Audi & BMW combined: dynamically & avantgardly shaped, yet with superb craftsmanship. BMW has the right design for me, Audi the craftsmanship. I loved Audi in the past (in pre-Bangle BMW era). Back then Audi has avantgarde designs (previous A6, A4, TT) vs. too understated BMWs. But then BMW take a lead with "Bangle-ized designs). I'm still mad at Audi due not continuing with their avantgarde design. And mad at BMW because they lack craftsmanship that's appropriate to brand like BMW.
But according to the info BMW's craftsmanship will improve significantly with new generation of cars (starting with F01 7er), while there is no sign of Audi going more emotional with their design.
My 2 cents.
