Re: Audi A3: Spy shots of the upcoming facelift!

Spied: restyled Audi A3

Spy photographers have spotted a new Audi A3 with a revised front fascia. It appears as though the new A3 will better reflect Audi's corporate face seen on the all-new A4 and A5. The new A3 is characterized by a sharper front end incorporating the newly-designed single-frame grill and small fins on the lower edge of the bumper. It is also believed that the car's Xenon headlights will receive the same optic treatment found throughout the Audi lineup.

The A3 is scheduled to be replaced by an all-new model in 2009.
In an attempt to become a bigger player in the luxury segment currently occupied by BMW and Mercedes, Audi has given its entire lineup a similar corporate face. Although its cars are now easier to spot, Audi has been criticized for making its cars too bland and void of any unique-to-the-model styling. The most recent example of Audi's styling can be seen in the all-new A4 — unveiled this week at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

So a second facelift. I wonder what they are planning to do with the rear lights.

Audi A3 Facelift Spy Photos

Before an all new generation hits showrooms in 2009, the Audi A3 is yet again receiving a facelift. By the look of things, the facelifted A3 and all-new A3 Cabriolet might be revealed simultaneously and although there is no word on an exact date the A3 Cabrio is rumoured to make a Geneva debut early next year.

With the facelift the A3 will be brought in line with the new Audi A4 and A5, meaning a sharper front end, the newly designed single-frame grille and small fins on the low edge of the bumper.

Oh look Yannis, Audi are going to introduce a 2nd facelift for their lovely A3. ;) Morons!

So now what do you think of BMW's idea to facelift models twice in the lifecycle? :D

Let's not forget that the current A8 got 2 facelifts as well ;)

You know me Martin. I will NEVER agree with something just cause Audi is doing it.

Yes they are morons , same goes for BMW.

BTW i haven't been able to confirm that the A3 will get a facelift. Surely the bumper and lights are different but i 'm not sure if that's a facelift or simply the work of a tuner.

Re: Audi A3: Spy shots of the upcoming facelift!

Actually, whether this is legit or not, I could care less.

Just wanted to pull the p!ss for a little while! :D Please don't take me seriously on this one - even if I'm all for the idea of 2 facelifts in a 7 year model cycle.

If i want a car that gets fecelifted every year i can buy a KIA or a Huyndai.:D

I hope Audi and BMW won't do such a thing. It will hurt their credibility sooner or later.
On the other hand A6 will be virtually unchanged after the facelift (see RS6). That is a comfort.:D

Short joke , two guys meet for the first time:

-"What car do you own?"
-"A BMW 3 series"
-"Which one?"
-"The E91.5 pre-facelift-facelifted model"
-"Wow , great car but i like the E91.6 better , just saw the pics of the new facelift last week".

If you want change BMW 3 series to Audi A3. It's the same situation anyway.:D

Adding the single grill to the 3 doors A3 is it call a facelift? The sporback is the same as the 1st one or i'm missing something, so this would be the 1st " facelift " 4 the 5 doors.
BTW the front looks more agressive, lets hope the don't put the A4/A5 tail lights, but i'm thinking they will as in the cabrio.

Preview: 2009 Audi A3 facelift and Sportback

Audi’s A3 hatch is next in line to get the latest family face styling update as seen on the recently launched cabrio model. The car gets the same sharper front end, reshaped grille and revised headlights to bring it in line with the cabrio as well as the A4 and A5 models.

Audi is also believed to be developing an additional sportback Avant model as previewed in this rendering of a five-door version.
Expect most of the current engine options to carry over, including the sporty S3 model complete with a 265bhp (195kW) version of the 3.2L V6. The A3 range-topper is also tipped to get the newer DSG transmission in the update but there’s been no official word from Audi.
The facelifted car is expected to be launched early next year and will be on sale until the next-gen model arrives in mid 2009 for the 2010 model year.

I wonder why Audi is making such an extensive facelift. Owners of the current model won't be happy , the resale value of their car will be significanlty reduced.:t-crazy2:

I would rather see them follow BMW's example which made only minor modifications to 1 series.

This is one of the most conspicuous face lifts ever. Now there will be three different A3 in the dealerships. The first one, the second one with the huge single frame grill and a third model with slightly updated styling. Not good if you ask me.

Finally, a front that looks great even without the S-line package (ala B8 A4). Can't wait.

So guys,

what can we expect ?
The restyled SportbackA3 & restyled A3 could be presented at january's Brussels Auto Salon ? I'd sure like that :usa7uh:

Spy Photos: 2009 Audi A3 Sportback

INGOLSTADT, Germany — A face-lift for the 2009 Audi A3 Sportback appears to be in the works, as evidenced by this prototype spy photographers caught testing at Audi's Tech Center in Germany. The styling refresh brings the future A3 closer to the new Audi A4, and adopting some key design features that are defining the new face of Audi.

Although the overall shape of the headlights appears unchanged, the lower portion of the lenses are obscured by tape, likely hiding a version of Audi's latest design innovation, the daytime LED strips found on the new A4 and Audi R8.

Headlight updates are joined by a new front bumper and new outer intakes that wrap further around the sides of the nose toward the front wheels. The Audi corporate grille appears largely unchanged, but the low central intake strip has been reshaped to closely resemble the A4. New side mirrors incorporate LED turn indicators.

Changes to the A3's rear end include a new rear bumper with a blacked-out portion at the bottom to provide a sportier stance.

What this means to you: No dramatic changes, but styling updates that solidify the A3's place in the Audi family. — Kelly Toepke, News Editor

Re: Spy Photos: 2009 Audi A3 Sportback

So this is the second big facelift for this car?
Wouldn't it be about time to make a new A3 rather than a facelift?

Re: Spy Photos: 2009 Audi A3 Sportback

LOL ....I'm sure they're working on it klier

Actually it's the first facelift for the Sportback. The 3 door A3 already had a minor facelift when the single grille was integrated into the front bumper around 2 years ago. So for the 3 door A3 this will be the second facelift.

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
