A5/S5/RS5 AMS - Audi RS5 TEST

It should be faster than the M3 in most respects.

Except the numbers we have till now - which I agree is not much - seems to indicate otherwise except for 0-60 times. 0-200 times seem to be very similar and will most probably come down to individual cars/drivers. In gear acceleration is clearly advantage M3. The only track time we have is the Autozeutng handling time and M3 is almost 2 secs ahead in that (but since tests are done on different days, probably not too comparable, but again 2 secs is a huge gap).

The acceleration data that this and other tests provide will be interesting and in my mind the closeness between the two cars will help explain why some of us always felt the M3 didn't need to offer more power and that suspension and stability tweaks were all that was necessary.

Audi RS5 vs. BMW M3 - Will be interesting!

Ta da da daa, TA DA DA DAAAAAA!!!!! I suddenly hear Beethoven's Symphony No.5. Ladies and gentlemen the time has come to see if Audi has taken notes while attending the school of ///M for all these years. The battle will be fierce, blood will be shed, hopes will be dashed away, expectations will be crushed. There may even be a surprise ending. In the end will it be worth the wait? Hell yeah. Where's my popcorn?

Lol. You know, both camps are preparing explanations for every possible result as we speak. :D

Best regards,

Oh yeah South and jobs might be lost too. It's because we the customer demand perfection. I love competition. It always inspires better products. It will be interesting to see what "excuses" are made if any from both sides. This isn't even about the C63 or the IS-F. I think Audi could care less about those two even though they will be considered by the purchasing public. This my friends is all about the ///M3. Is it tomorrow yet? Dammit I got to keep myself busy so the day can fly by.

I think both camps will be very happy. The key is to skip the four last paragraphs is a test and look at what matters to you. So, the RS5 will be the perfect Audi and the M3 will be a really good BMW. What concerns me is that manufacturers are looking too closely at eachother.

Couldn't agree more, do we really need another M3 when the one we already have is perfect in many eyes. Audi shouldn't try to beat BMW at their own game and instead build their verison of the perfect sports coupe.

Oh I forgot, that's what their are already doing. :D (j/k)

I will read every word twice just to make sure I didn't miss anything lol. I have a slightly different view than you though because I do want them to look at each other and try and beat their competition. They (said company) wins and most importantly the consumer wins.

Maybe I mistook dr Dunkel but I think even you don't want the RS5 to feel, act and behave like an M3. Then all it would become is an M3 with an Audi badge.

I think secretly deep down we all wanted to hear that the RS5 feels like a Lotus. That would be a compliment. The M3 is also an excellent car in it's class. I see it as a compliment also if a car handles "M3-like". I also think that sport cars in general tend to be sportier in a RWD configuration. Sometimes I would even go as far and say that RWD cars should not be compared to AWD cars because they by inherent design will always feel different. The RS5 is in a class by itself because it falls short of the GT-R and 911 Turbo but it dominates the Mitsubishi Evo, STi and R32. That's just me. Like I said before, if the RS5 feels like the M and above, I'll be happy. I do agree that Audi should make Audi's and BMW should make BMW's but no one can deny that if it wasn't for competition and carmakers looking at each other's designs and technologies that got us this far with all the innovations that have adorned the modern automobile. I say let them keep trying to outdo each other and when the end result manifests itself, if I can afford it, I'll support the cause and purchase.

The only way for the RS5 to feel like a Lotus is to lose almost half it's weight......like that's going to happen.

That's never going to happen but if the initial reviews came back as razor sharp steering and it feels like my finger tips are dragging across the ground with the amount of feedback through the wheel etc etc we would all b singing a different song. I understand your and the Dr's point about the unique feel of Audi to BMW to Merc. I would be saddened to see that if the RS5 wins a comparison test against the M3, it won because it was more luxurious rather than sporty. Tomorrow will soon be here. Let the games begin.

Yeah, to Lotus.

What I meant by that was that if Audi can make any car in their lineup handle like a Lotus it would be a great achievement on Audi's part. Like Footie said though, they'll have to lose half or more of their weight to accomplish this. Never going to happen.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
