A5/S5/RS5 AMS - Audi RS5 TEST

To add some relevance to the figure one could check what other models are available at that price, because it is rather steep compared to good a spec C63 or M3.

Yes, I agree with you. I was only doing a remark on how expensive the cars are in my country.

It's incredibly easy to get carried away on the options list of the RS5 and these press cars are all fully loaded.

I suspect the spec of this one reads like this

2800 - Bucket seats
1600 - 20" Alloys
1130 - Sunroof
1000 - Sports Exhaust
2450 - Sat Nav
6000 - Ceramic Brakes
1000 - Dynamic Steering
950 - Sportdiff
1290 - Adaptive Cruise Control
1500 - Delimiter to 280km/h
1260 - Phone system
950 - B & O speaker system
1335 - TV + DAB
_____
23295 euros

Which is roughly what this car cost, give or take a couple of extras. Some with reduce to overall weight but the rest will increase it.

Why would Audi design such tall gears in this car? Leave that for the A5/S5. For the most part people buying the cars in this class aren't overly concerned with mpg. The thought may cross one or two minds but this is supposed to be a no holds barred vehicle. They still gave it 5 out of 5 but the thought of a 535 like someone posted beating you on a roll is ridiculous.

The gear was ridiculous but a necessity to achieve the desired economy, it's one of the reasons why I much prefer FI units to N/A ones, even exceptional ones like this and the S65, but it is only the final 2 gears that are overly tall as up to that it's remarkably similar to that of the M3 M-DCT, plus when in either of the two auto modes the gearbox will downshift to the appropriate gear depending on the amount of throttle applied.

Autozeitung test RS5 vs 997.2S PDK

This week Autozeitung tested the RS5 against the Carrera C2S PDK and won, no small achievement of which very few cars have beaten in the pass and this latest Carrera is it's finest example which is mated to arguably the finest of all dual clutch gearboxes.

I know acceleration figures are still vitally important to some so here you are.

RS5 vs 997.2SPDK

4.3s vs 4.0s 0-100km/h
15.6s vs 14.3s 0-200km/h

It's as plain as day that the RS5 must have seriously impressed the reviewer to gain the victory overall, because even it's impressive times were well and truly over shadowed by the might of this Porsche.

It's defeated the best DD sportscar in the world, now roll on the tests against the C63 and M3, it's true rivals. ;)

I haven't read the test but I bet the 911 is still the greater sportscar car of them. More involving, quicker and with better handling, which Porsche's are about.

Lower fuel consumption = less CO2, which in turn means lower corporate average CO2 emissions.

What's more, in some countries (like mine) taxes on the purchase/the use of cars are based on CO2 emissions. Mind you, the RS5 still starts at €138,749.36 here (that's €91,230 + taxes).

RS5 vs 997.2SPDK

4.3s vs 4.0s 0-100km/h
15.6s vs 14.3s 0-200km/h
4,0 seconds with a C2S?! C'mon!
Factory data is 4,3 s with LC. AMS and Sport Auto did 4,4, AutoBild Sportscars did 4,2 seconds. I thought that's the BEST. But 4,0 seconds... I still thinks something's strange with AutoZeitung's testing-method.:t-hands:

Likewise, I too am looking forward to reading this article, but even if the Porsche was more involving and the better handler, but the gap must have been quite small for the RS5 to still be victorious overall.

Well, kudos :eusa_clap, but you won't see me spending my money on a Audi over Porsche when talking about these type of cars...Never!

:t-cheers:

I can't disagree with that opinion as I too have done that very thing, but only when I had the luxury of a normal car to drive on the occasions when the tiresome nature of the Porsche was getting the better of me. May be age and the need for a less tiresome life would make me chose the RS5 over the Carrera if it was my sole mode of transport but if you can put up with the constant noise of a 911 at motorway speeds then it's the one to buy. :t-cheers:

That may be but that is what the data says, plus the times for the RS5 are on the money which was tested at the same time.

Yeah, I know the times are "real". It would be great to see a video of the track where AZ's testing cars... and the way they do the measuring, because they get over-optimistic times. Constantly. No matter what kind of cars they gonna test, we know the times will be the best. :eusa_doh::D

I'm just enthused with this assertion:

Porsche Carrera 2 S "defeated" by RS5. Defeated? Really footie, must everything you write about Audi be so palpably propagandist? 'Sakes, the day Autozeitung makes reliable, consistent verdicts on performance cars is the day I swap subscriptions from EVO to WhatCar? .

For me, Carrera S PDK over RS5 without question; even over my absolute darling M3 if money was no object.

Sorry, but there's a white on black Carrera S PDK PCCB sunroof sport chrono demo with 2000 km sitting on the floor at Porsche Centre JHB. I think it's just over a million bucks in local money. It's absolutely immaculate and gorgeous!!! Nothing looks like a 911 (a good thing in some peoples' books, a bad thing in others'). By comparison, new M3 with some decent options is around R 850 000.

Damn, that Porsche is flipping close when you're in at that level of the market!

There will be a comparison between the RS5 and the Nissan GT-R in the next issue of AutoBild Sportscars. :usa7uh:

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
