8 Series [Renders] 2020 BMW 8 series

The BMW 8 Series is a range of grand tourer coupes and convertibles produced by BMW. The 8 Series was introduced in 1990 under the E31 model code and was only available as a two-door coupé. The E31 was discontinued in 1999 due to poor sales. The model range was later reintroduced in 2018 with the second generation, G15 8 Series. It launched in coupé (G15), convertible (G14), and four-door Gran Coupé (G16) body styles, as the successor to the F06/F12/F13 6 Series lineup.

Hahaha! Did the mighty M3 GTR even achieve wins at all of these marquee events? I don't think it won Le Mans, but how about the others?

Well, it won at the Nürburgring 24 twice, and it won Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta... I don't think it won the others though.

It illustrates how much they have brought to production reality from the concept. Especially when you have to take into consideration the legalities to make it production ready.

Ah yes but it is showing you how the production car is going to look minus the appendage.
Especially the kidney grille.
I think you like?

I think you joke?

Higher Res, and more:

Munich. Last week’s three-day test at the Lausitzring (GER) heralded the next phase in the development of the new BMW M8 GTE. Following the roll-out on 1st July at BMW Plant Dingolfing, this was the first test outing for the BMW M8 GTE. BMW works driver Martin Tomczyk (GER) alternated at the wheel with BMW DTM driver Maxime Martin (BEL). BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt also attended the test.

“To see the BMW M8 GTE on the racetrack makes me very proud. Everyone involved has done a magnificent job in recent months to allow us to reach this milestone in the development of our new flagship for the GT racing scene,” said Marquardt. “In the first instance, the purpose of a test like this is obviously to get to know the car. In this regard, greater emphasis is placed on the safety aspect than performance. However, the first impression of the BMW M8 GTE out on the track is a very positive one.”

Outings in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (IWSC) in North America are planned for the newly-developed car in 2018. Before then, the BMW M8 GTE will undergo many more tests at racetracks in Europe and North America to ensure it is ideally prepared for its race debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona (USA) in January. The highlight of the 2018 WEC season will once again be the 24 Hours of Le Mans (FRA).

“Firstly, I feel very honoured to have been able to drive at the first real test of the BMW M8 GTE on the racetrack,” said Tomczyk after the three days of testing at the Lausitzring. “I had great fun with the car. The BMW M8 GTE is good to drive from the outset, and it is easy for us drivers to work out the way it handles, which is important. We got a lot of kilometres under our belt, and gathered a lot of data. We also took our first steps with regard to performance, which is by no means a given at a first test. We will obviously work more intensively on that at the coming tests, and will build on the strong basis we established here at the Lausitzring.”

Okay, so it's not as beefy as the M6 GT3. Finally BMW have pulled the trigger on the (somewhat) inverted kidney grilles. Maybe following suit with MB's AMG GT. January can't come soon enough for the Roar Before the 24!

Mhh i wonder if we are seeing the real headlights shape.

Absolutely love the shape of the grille.

The 8er is going to be an extreme stunner.

This portion looks derived from the production car without changes. I think the greenhouse looks really good, slender.

The below diagram shows the areas of body work permitted to be modified, bodywork outside of these areas must be the same same shape as the original.

The are additional regulations and restrictions that go with this, but you get the general idea.

Mhh i wonder if we are seeing the real headlights shape.

From the regs... "The external shape of original lighting equipment must be kept and may be integrated in the shape of the bodywork part concerned (see boot lid, fenders and bumpers)."

Anyone realised the latest spy video clearly shows the rearlights?
Yes the racer M8 GTE shows a lot of details that will be on the production car, which are taken in a more realistic form from the concept car.

I trust that the roof, taillamps, grill and (under the foil) headlamps are an accurate indication of what we will see on the production car. Otherwise, much remains a bit of a riddle yet unsolved.

Personally, I do so hope that BMW gets it absolutely right with this car. Once a more-than-avid fan of the marque (and over the years having been an owner of 6 models), I would love to become genuinely enthusiastic again. BMWs' of late (save the M4 with the ZCP) haven't really ignited "the fire".

It strikes me that information with regard to a future 8 series Gran Coupe smacks of innuendo and has been cryptic at best.

Will a GC version be produced ? Any information from sources genuinely "in the know" ?
