Macan 2014 Porsche Macan

The Porsche Macan is a compact luxury crossover SUV (D-segment) produced by Porsche since 2014. It is the smaller SUV from Porsche below the Cayenne. The first-generation Macan went on production from February 2014 with petrol and diesel engine options. In 2024, Porsche released the second-generation Macan which is a battery electric vehicle built on the dedicated Premium Platform Electric (PPE) EV platform.
Interesting. It took a while to get familiar with the layout coming from a long history of bimmer's and i drive but I like the Macan's layout and buttons. My only knocks on the car so far are the tight rear seats and auto mode for PDK in the standars (comfort) setting is too laid back.

As cool as Cooley is, he's not really a car guy. I've talked to him every year in LA. And no, the infotainment system is not that hard to use.

Just get in and drive the darned thing and just be aware not to:
a. Attempt a ham-fisted Elk avoidance maneuver with more steering lock than is necessary...
b. Fiddle with the infotainment system whilst attempting said maneuver...
c. take any cognisance whatsoever of the fuel consumption of the petrol-engined models...

With the above out the way do take not of:
a. How something so heavy with such a high CofG can handle so adroitly...
b. The spookily precise behaviour of the PDK transmission...
c. The impeccable interior build quality...
d. Is that really a V6 under the hood?

He obviously sits in a parking lot and fiddles with the infotainment system the whole day to come to this conclusion!!

If he was an enthusiast like all of us then he would appreciate the other qualities of the Mecan, because after all it is no ordinary car but a Porsche! A thoroughbred drivers car with the best dynamics, performance and brakes of any compact SUV. And not just that it is a lovely SUV to look at in my honest opinion.

This car is quite something. There is one near work and the discs front discs cover almost one third of the disc which is remarkable for what's an "entry level" Porsche.

It seems that some 60.000 Macan models are being recalled due to a possible leak in the fuel lines inside the engine compartment.

Press release:

Leaking low-pressure line – affected customers will be contacted directly

Porsche examines vehicles of the type Macan S and Macan Turbo

Stuttgart. Precautionary recall: Porsche is conducting an examination of 58,881 of Macan S and Macan Turbo vehicles around the world, of which 3,641 are in Germany. The reason for this move is a possible leak in the low-pressure fuel line inside the engine compartment. The line will be replaced in the workshop. This is a purely precautionary measure.

Affected are only gasoline engines. The problem was identified after a precise examination of complaints and then immediately rectified in ongoing production. Owners of the vehicles will be contacted directly by their responsible Porsche dealers. Workshop appointments will be arranged as quickly as possible. The work will take roughly one hour and will be carried out free of charge.

Porsche is freshening up the Macan high-performance crossover with a series of updates for 2016.

The Macan recently received a new GTS version, but it seems it’s not the only novelty Porsche is planning for next year as the Stuttgart-based manufacturer has announced all models will come as standard with the newest Porsche Communication Management (PCM). The latest iteration of their infotainment system makes use of a seven-inch high-resolution touchscreen display with support for multi-touch gestures, Bluetooth, USB, SD, Wi-Fi hotspot and Apple CarPlay.

In addition, the optional Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus) now includes full LED cornering headlights featuring a camera-based dynamic main beam function to make the necessary adjustments automatically when driving at night. Using the navigation data provided by the car’s PCM, the intersection light will activate an additional lamp to grant optimal illumination of the area into which the Macan is turning.

Go for the Macan Turbo and there are now new customization packages bringing cosmetic tweaks both inside and out. The interior kit encompasses an extended Alcantara trim and contrasting stitching, “Turbo” lettering on the headrests, illuminated door sill plates along with Rhodium Silver or Garnet Red decorative stitching applied onto the door panels, seats and instrument panel.

As for the exterior package, it contains bi-color 21-inch wheels sourced from the 911 Turbo, glossy black air inlets and side blades, Sport Design side mirrors, black tailpipes for the sports exhaust system along with smoked taillights and trim strips on the rear underbody panel as well as on the side windows.

Lastly, Porsche will offer the 2016 Macan with additional body colors, an optional Alcantara-trimmed heated steering wheel, along with fresh decorative stitching in contrasting colors and new alternative hues for the center panels of the seats.

The revised Macan is already available for order in Germany and will start hitting dealerships early 2016 at the following prices: €61,143 Macan S, €60,548 Macan S Diesel, €73,400 Macan GTS and €83,753 for the range-topping Macan Turbo.

I tried to get my brother to buy one..... it's so expensive... but I guess once you add all the options here it's almost the same.

I have seen used Macan Turbos for sale at £70-80k which is level with a well equipped Range Rover or S-Class. It's astonishing how Porsche can convince people to pony up that much for a small SUV. Is it really that good?

Four-cylinder Porsche Macan launched in Germany

Porsche is making the Macan more affordable at home in Germany by launching a new entry-level version powered by a four-cylinder engine.

A four-cylinder Macan has been available in select countries for quite some time, but it’s only now the model’s domestic market is getting the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. Already available on order, the entry-level Macan costs €55,669 (including VAT), so it is substantially more affordable than the previous cheapest version, the €60,548 Macan S Diesel.

The four-cylinder unit develops 252 horsepower (185 kilowatts) from 5,000 rpm and 273 pound-feet (370 newton meters) of torque from 1,600 rpm delivered through a standard seven-speed, dual-clutch PDK transmission. Fitted with this engine, the “sports car of the SUV segment” will run the sprint to 62 mph (100 kph) in 6.7 seconds. Go for the optional Sport Chrono Package and the time is reduced to 6.5 seconds before the vehicle tops out at 142 mph (229 kph.)

Depending on wheel + tire combination, the four-cylinder Porsche Macan will have a fuel consumption between 7.4 liters / 100 km to 7.2 liters /100 km in the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). It weighs 3,902 pounds (1,770 kilograms) and comes as standard with Porsche Traction Management PTM active all-wheel drive system while an optional air suspension is available.

Compared to the other Macans, the four-cylinder variant can be distinguished by its black side window trim strips, 18-inch wheels, black brake calipers, and a different exhaust system with brushed stainless steel dual tips.

Many of the goodies found in the Macan S come as standard in the cheaper version, including comfort seats with 8-way electric adjustment for the driver’s seat, latest PCM infotainment system, and Alcantara middle seat panels. In addition, the four-cylinder Macan gets a powered tailgate and a lane departure warning system as standard equipment.

Porsche Deutschland says the four-cylinder Macan will be launched locally in June.

Another punch in the gut for the Range Rover Evoque which only comes with an under-powered 2.0 engine.

Here in Oz the Porsche is at least 50% more expensive than the equivalent evoque though.

Yeah the Macan is not cheap. Some of the models in showrooms have price tags that are eye watering and borderline laughable for a car of its interior size. However, it's much offer much more car than the Evoque which is very much a lifestyle accessory compared with the very competent Range Rover Sport.

Here the price difference isn't as big between the two, because the dealer inflated the RR's prices. The funny thing, is the same company. They have the Porsche dealer next to JLR. It has been a runaway success, I literally see dozens of Macans every day.
