F1 2007 Hungarian GP

Listen, if Hamilton did what Alonso did...

Then Hammy would be a little bitch as well.

And please stop with the “what ifs” and the insinuations that some members would say this or that if it was Hammy… this will only lead to confrontations.

I hope Hami is going to have good start and he’s going to put this stupid Alo to hell.:eusa_pray
Anyway, it looks like McLaren 1-2 tomorrow. Massa:emthdown:

Latest intrigue grips paddock in Hungary

Front-row lockout but no smiles from Dennis
04/08/07 17:19

With the espionage scandal now firmly on the back burner – for today at least anyway - journalists focused in on the latest paddock intrigue following qualifying in Hungary.

According to several observers in the media centre here in Budapest, McLaren boss Ron Dennis had hard words with Fernando Alonso's personal physiotherapist after it appeared that the reigning world champion shrewdly held up team-mate Lewis Hamilton in the final pit stop service.

Dennis, after slamming his headphones down on the pit wall in disgust, then walked the length of the Hungaroring pitlane with his arm around the McLaren-clad physiotherapist -- not letting go either when talking briefly with the press or with an FIA representative.

It is alleged by media sources that Alonso had only vacated his pit box after a furtive signal from the physio, despite the fact that his tyres had been changed and the lollipop raised.

Alonso protested that he did not mean to prevent Hamilton from completing his out lap in time: "I'm sorry for him but I leave the pits when I'm told to."

Stewards investigating Alonso's hold-up

By Pablo Elizalde Saturday, August 4th 2007, 15:09 GMT

The Hungarian Grand Prix stewards are reviewing the incident involving Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton during Saturday's qualifying.

Alonso took a controversial pole position from teammate Hamilton after the rookie was unable to complete his final flying lap due to the Spaniard delaying his exit from the pitlane.

The two-time champion was waved to get going by his mechanics, but he stood still for some 10 seconds while Hamilton waited behind him. The delay meant Hamilton was unable to complete his final run in time.

After qualifying, the FIA decided to investigate the incident, and team boss Ron Dennis was called by the stewards.

The stewards also asked to review the radio communications related to that pitstop.

Dennis is an idiot… his blatant bias towards Hammy is probably the main reason for the Hammy vs Alonso debacle.

I can understand that Dennis happy and proud that his protégé is doing well, but since he makes it a habit to point out his preference for one driver in the media, I feel it makes him look unprofessional as a team principal. And especially with these types of incidents, they should be resolved privately within the team and not in the media.

So in many ways I understand why Alonso is pissed and unhappy… if only Alonso was more mature about it.

If both drivers are getting equal level of equipment and service, why is one being favoured? Do you actually "see" Hamilton was being favoured during races? Their strategies were pretty much equal.. Of course I believe Dennis prefers Hamilton, but it really isn't changing any results as far as I can see on the track..

What Alonso probably thinks is, I can't let a rookie beat me in his first year. It really is a stupid move, he might get sent to the back tomorrow if he was indeed tryign to hold up his team mate rather than waiting for clear track, but I mean, can't you go slower in the pitlane to kill time (to wait for clear track) instead of taking up the pit stop? If he really wants to do it, hey, don't do it so damn obviously, can just wait a few seconds then pretend the clutch isn't working, or run into some mechanic to cause some trouble..

What Alonso did was a bit unfair but this isn't the worst we have seen in F1. He does have massive balls to anger Ron Dennis like that, right in front of his face. Immidiately I was thinking "How long will Alonso stay in Mclaren?" Surely this will have a very significant effect of the relationship between Alonso and the team, espically Ron.

To sum it up:

1) First stop: Alonso is held longer than necessary and then they screw it up with his tires (it is not directly relevant, but helps to understand Alonso's mood at the second pitstop)

2) Second stop: Alonso is held back for more seocnds than necessary again and then right when Lewis arrives they raise the lollypop.

3) After the lollypop is raised, Alonso still remains in place for many more seconds and then leaves.

Alonso is to blame for point #3. The rest was not his fault, right? So, let's assume that 3) never happened, and Alonso ends up in P2.
Would everybody go into a rage too because the team ruined Nando's chances at both pitstops?
Just asking. Again, I am not justifying FA's actions in any way.

I am trying to understand how other people think about these situations.

Another scenario. Alonso leaves as soon as the lollipop is raised and ends in P2.

Would you have got into a fit over Alonso's first pitstop where he was held unfairly by the team, and again in the second pitstop in which he was at least held up for 5 seconds while the team was waiting for Lewis to catch up with him?

Think about it before starting the bonfire....

He was clearly p**sed when they did it the first time, and we all know that despite whats said pubicly he is p**sed the team favour Hamilton and that Hamilton is allowed to steal his setups all the time.

I (dark) part of me loved it, because I'm not believing the 'everythings fine' crap in the news. Alonso and Hamilton don't get along because the team favour God.
Alonso was just evening it up a tad.

Anyway, i do think that FA did a stupid thing today, but i imho he did it to Ron and the Hamy brigade.

Not long I hope. Alongside Ferrari, McLaren is the other that I cannot stand.

Nah, I didn't mean that Hammy gets special favouritism in terms of equipment nor strategy... it's not even a question of the team favouring Hammy. It's more in terms of support from Dennis himself, that's where the favouritism comes in. The bad part is that this favouritism is very public, so the media blows it out of proportion, fueling the problem.

Alonso not to be blamed for blocking Hamilton, team boss says

Budapest, August 4 (MTI) - Spanish double world champion Fernando Alonso should not be blamed for preventing his teammate Lewis Hamilton from making a final lap and possibly clinching the pole position in the time trials for Sunday's Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix, McLaren-Mercedes team boss Ron Dennis said on Saturday.

"The team failed to do what it should have done. Alonso had an extraordinarily long pitstop because our engineer in charge did not give him the go-ahead signal in due time," he said.

Hamilton had to sit helplessly in his car behind Alonso for a few seconds. The delay cost him a lot as he failed to return to the circuit in time and start a last lap before the chequered flag and retake the lead from his teammate.

Hamilton, a newcomer in the Formula One field, built up a two-point lead over defending world champion Alonso in ten races.

In the Sunday race scheduled to start at 1400 CET, the two McLaren-Mercedes pilots will start from the front row: Alonso from the first grid and Hamilton from the second.

For the record I don't buy this at all.

I still think part of McMerc tried to pull a Montoya on him and put him on the "What ?! **** me !!! .. Nooo **** you !" mode.

thats a whole load of bullshiit. as far as i'm concerned, this is certainly a sabotage alonso did for Hammi. Hammi was as fast and sharp as a lightning t/out the quali session. how come he wasn't allowed to defend his provisional pole by Alonso?

u can clearly see the lollipop man tried to wave to Alonso to move, to allow Hammi in, but he just sat there, and tried his best to look confused. i say, he should be disqualified for the race, or just like Schumi's parking stunt last year, he should start behind the grid. period.

Here's some nonsense from Alonso.

World champion Fernando Alonso has said McLaren teammate Lewis Hamilton triggered the incident the duo were involved in during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Alonso got pole position after controversially making his teammate wait in the pitlane for some ten seconds before he got his car moving.
The delay meant Hamilton was unable to complete his final flying lap in time, while Alonso jumped to the top of the times to secure pole from the Briton.
Team boss Ron Dennis was visibly angry after qualifying and was seen on television throwing his headphones when Hamilton failed to reach the start/finish line in time to complete his lap.
Alonso told reporters after qualifying that Hamilton had not respected orders from the team to allow the Spaniard through earlier in the session in order to allow him to have an extra flying lap.
"They told Hamilton what to do and he didn't listen," Alonso was quoted as saying by EFE news agency.
"That was the only problem the team had. Ron's anger was because he (Hamilton) didn't accept an order that the team repeated several times over the first lap.
"Therefore, the team did all they had to do, and tried to give me that extra lap, but for those reasons it wasn't possible.
"I've been asked about Ron throwing his headphones, about how he went after Fabrizio (Alonso's physio), or whatever. I have nothing against him. I was going to have an extra lap of fuel, and I didn't have it, but in the end I got pole."

And please stop with the “what ifs” and the insinuations that some members would say this or that if it was Hammy… this will only lead to confrontations.

There's naturally confrontation already whenever Hamilton and Alonso come up in the same debate. They are becoming the two most polarizing forces in F1.

To borrow your quote, Siko - his (Dennis) blatant bias towards Hammy is probably the main reason for the Hammy vs Alonso debacle. I would just add that the alleged bias is why the "what ifs" are often asked (usually rhetorically and not just by me) about Hamy and Alonso. When "Mr. Integrity" doesn't exhibit such public favoritism, no one would have to speculate and ask "what ifs" about the equality of his two drivers.

I am not blaming anyone for having favoritism. It's normal. I actually prefer a No. 1 driver policy in F1. What I find annoying is how it plays out in the Mclaren family. Now that I think about, the situation is no different than in any large company. A superstar executive should get involved with a company when the boss's baby is also there because there will never be equal status. Perhaps because this is F1, we lost track of that reality.
