1M 1M Orange vs White vs Black

The BMW 1 Series M Coupé (often referred to as the "1M") is the high-performance model of the E82 coupe range, sold under the BMW M performance sub-brand. While BMW naming convention would have called the car the "M1", an alternate name was chosen to avoid confusion with the BMW M1 supercar from the 1970's. Official website: BMW M

I have a tough time deciding which color the car looks best in. Every time I see one in a color, I think that is the best one for the car.

Still not sure which looks best. Black looks classy and shows of the flared fenders well, but hides the details like the black diffuser and front bumper details. White is the sportiest and shows the details well, but hides the curves. Orange is the flashiest, but I think is very dependent of the ambient light.

I neeed to see the car in real life but based on photos I would pick BLACK.

I know it's a trick of the light but the black one looks like it's archs are a full inch wider at the back than either the white or orange. You might lose some of the finer detailing around the nose and tail but if you are after the woo factor then Black it the colour, though I want to see a white one with the BMW Motorsport stripes treatment before I make my definitive opinion on which I rate best, the only one I would rule out is orange.

Interesting comparison photo's. The car really takes on a different character with each color. Unlike a lot of comments so far, I think the orange color makes this car come alive. This old fart actually likes it. Although it wouldn't be my first choice. I love AW in general, especially on the E39 5 series I owned a while back, loved that car. And I really thought it would be no contest here, but it isn't. Judging solely on the photo's, it's my last choice. It accentuates the cars height too much in my view, and the car doesn't look that special in AW to these eyes. In general, I really don't dig black cars, maybe it's just a bias because there just so damn hard to keep clean or maybe it's becasue their so common. But on this car, it looks phenomenal. The car looks mean and special. And it also is very reminiscent of BMW's of old style wise.

So for me, a long-winded and surprising vote for black.

Orange, white, black. In that order. White doesn't really look so good from the front but otherwise

Alpine-White for me please! Probably the best white ever on wheels & looks great on about every Bimmer! :usa7uh:

White just looks so classy yet still very athletic. It may not showcase the flame surfacing as well as other colors, but those car-show photos have very unnatural lighting, so it's very common for white to look washed-out.

Orange definitely shouts passion and youthfulness, excitement and a departure from the norm, but I've seen this metallic burnt-orange color on vehicles before, and after a while it loses its novelty. Also, the devilish blood-red hue of the rear lights doesn't standout nearly as much as it does with the white and black paint.

Black is sporty, ok...but it ain't thaaaat sporty (IMO). It tends to hide details, and when it comes to the aggressive front bumper and rear diffuser this really becomes a drawback. It may look a bit more stealthy and sleek, and goodness knows how evil the angel eyes look at night on a black BMW, but black isn't my cup of tea.

Overall, I'd go for the white without a second thought. Offer the car in LeMans Blue (E39 M5) or even Laguna Seca Blue (E46 M3) and then I'd have a harder time eeny-meeny-miiny-mo-ing!

I haven't voted, I still can't make up my mind. Looks like white is the favorite around here and I like it too. It makes the details stick out most, especially the rear.

But one of my favorite parts about this car is the fared fenders and the white hides those curves from some angles. See these 2 pics. You can hardly see the flared fenders in white vs the black one. The white almost looks as narrow as the normal 135.

But on the other hand you can also see how the black hides details like the slit in the rear bumper. Orange does both show the details and curves. But in certain light, the color looks drab, like this one:

Another big plus for white would be any CF parts like the BMW performance CF wings would stick out better. You could even go full monty and make it look like this:

:D

Black seems to me the best suited colour for this car.

It is a classic colour for a sports car. :usa7uh:

After 20 years, this car in black will still look amazing.

What would really suit the 1M in white is a CF roof! ...but since that's not available, the roof wrapped in black would be the next best thing. Similar to this:

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
