911 World premiere of the new Porsche 911 (992.2)

The Porsche 911 model series (pronounced Nine Eleven or in German: Neunelf) is a family of German two-door, high performance rear-engine sports cars, introduced in September 1964 by Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany.

New Porsche 911: T-Hybrid for significantly enhanced performance
28/05/2024

Porsche has fundamentally upgraded the iconic 911 sports car. The new 911 Carrera GTS is the first street-legal 911 equipped with a super-lightweight performance hybrid. The 911 Carrera will also be available immediately upon the launch of the new model. The newly developed, innovative powertrain system, with 3.6 litres of displacement (911 Carrera GTS) provisional values:
Fuel consumption* combined (WLTP) 11.0 – 10.5 l/100 km, CO emissions* combined (WLTP) 251 – 239 g/km, CO2 class G ), delivers significantly improved driving performance. The 911 Carrera GTS Coupé accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3.0 seconds and reaches a top speed of 312 km/h. The 911 Carrera will also be available immediately upon the launch of the new model. It is powered by a lightly modified 3.0-litre twin-turbo boxer engine (911 Carrera: Fuel consumption* combined (WLTP) 10.7 – 10.1 l/100 km, CO emissions* combined (WLTP) 244 – 230 g/km, CO2 class G ) that is more powerful than its predecessor’s. The new 911 also features a revamped design, better aerodynamics, a fresh interior, upgraded standard equipment and expanded connectivity.

With the relaunch of its iconic model, Porsche has modernised four of its six model lines in just a few months: Panamera, Taycan, Macan and 911. “Our product portfolio is younger than ever and highly attractive,” says CEO Oliver Blume. “It offers our customers even more customisation options and exclusive experiences.”

Finally a sportscar with electric turbos! Can't wait to read how it all works in practice.

That black cheap start button. Jeez. Wtf is that.
The red boost button on the drive mode dial is worse.

The 991.1 looks better than this in every way. Changes are small even for a facelift, but none are better than the original. Quite disappointing.

Sucks that there is no more manual GTS. Also the bumper vents look bad.

How crazy is this packaging?
Single turbo, cats are where the silencer used to be, and the new silencer position is off to the left side.
Aftermarket exhaust manufacturers scratching their heads right now. 😁

I must say, I do love the packaging of this. Definitely my favorite photo of the bunch.

Otherwise, though, getting more power through more weight is getting quite tiresome. They say "only" 50kg more, but they are now also offering no back seat option as standard - so that probably means it's more than 50kg spec-to-spec. In any case the 992.1 GTS with a lightweight pack and a manual was 1485kg (at least Porsche claimed) - so that's 110kg more for the lightest GTS of this gen compared to the last.

I mean, I get it. Porsche sells 50k 911s a year, so it's not some low volume supercar, and they need deliver what the casual Porsche buyers wants AND conform to the standard emission and fleet emission rules. So this makes perfect sense. Still, though, the GTS, the Turbo and Turbo S and even the GT2RS being hybrid with more power at the expense of more weight? Can't say that the thought of that excites me very much.

Didn't know back seat is not standard any more. But on flip side, the new one is PDK only, and RWS is standard now. So you have to discount those weights compared to the old one to get a true picture of the weight gain.

Sure, but my point is that finding a real sportscar 911 just got harder. Now where do you look for - somewhat - lightweight 911 (ideally with a manual)?

In the 992.1 gen, the only cars coming under 1500kg were the Carrera S with a manual, Carrera GTS with manual and lightweight pack, and the two GT models (+S/T).

In the 992.2 gen, the GTS is 1595kg, hybrid, no manual. The Carrera S might or might not be hybrid, but according to rumors no manual either way, so that's 1500kg+ regardless. So really only the GT3/RS are left. Or maybe the 1505kg Carrera T if it's offered again.

The ICE Cayman is dead too and the electric one will likely be 1600kg+. Well, I am not saying anything new - or particularly interesting - just venting frustration, so feel free to ignore.

Wow tough crowd Jesus.

It’s a superb facelift. .1 rear looks fat and outdated now.

Tacho is sad to see , but hey no deal breaker.

Hybrid tech is amazing. Just wait and see what they do with it. This is Porsche not lazy ass Mercedes or BMW.

All in all a super upgrade!

What about the road noise everyone was complaining about? Have they redcuded it?

GTS is being revealed. Those vertical slats in the lower bumper are active aero for the GTS model.

398 kW, 610 Nm turbo flat six with electrically assisted turbocharger. 3.6 litre engine.

Weight of new GTS is now 1595 kg - 50 kg more than 992.1 GTS.

Cost-cutting interior changes, fussy exterior design elements (those taillights elements don't even flow??) and pricing increases.. what a terrible time to be a car enthusiast.

What costs have they cut from the interior? That's the last thing the 911 needed.

I'm happy with my 991.1 GTS. I don't believe this is a visual upgrade. Performance upgrade yes. Impact of the hybrid drivetrain on resale and long term reliability/durability unknown.

Get where you are coming from.

But I also think, given most other hybrid out there, I think Porsche did well. The battery itself at 60lbs is not much heavier than the 12v lead batteries the current cars come with. And also takes no additional space -

Compared to the 2+ ton Mercedes and BMW hybrids, this is much more palatable.

Pretty sure, you have a 992.1 GTS. If it was a manual, it would have been the last manual GTS. And maybe even the last manual non-GT 911, if Porsche doesn't offer a manual S or T anymore.

Instrument cluster is all screen now, the physical rev counter being removed. The new switch module for the start-stop button is Punto grade. Back seats removed (but hey, you can spec them back in as a no cost option).

You have a 992.1 GTS. ;)

And, visually, this 992.2 is no upgrade whatsoever.

For the most part, I am fine with the exterior design changes, though those vertical slats on the GTS gives me Hannibal Lecter vibes. But the interior....oh, the interior is a step back. I don't see why you'd rob the uniqueness of what the 911's interior had to offer compared to the other Porsches in the line-up. Sometimes maximizing economies of scale should not be the end-all, be-all, but that's why I am not in charge of Porsche or any other company.

I wonder if the rumors stating that the GT3's 4.0L will be downsized to 3.6L while still NA will come true....

I’m glad everyone is now seeing Porsche’s extreme cost-cutting measures in their interiors. It’s gotten too flagrant at this point imo. We gave Porsche a pass because it’s Porsche.

The 991 and last generation Panamera had better quality interiors than their successors.

I recently sat in a R232 and 992 in close succession. The SL felt more solid, particularly the dashboard and center console, which is shocking knowing MB is just as guilty of cost-cutting.
