New Porsche 911: T-Hybrid for significantly enhanced performance
28/05/2024

Porsche has fundamentally upgraded the iconic 911 sports car. The new 911 Carrera GTS is the first street-legal 911 equipped with a super-lightweight performance hybrid. The 911 Carrera will also be available immediately upon the launch of the new model. The newly developed, innovative powertrain system, with 3.6 litres of displacement (911 Carrera GTS) provisional values:
Fuel consumption* combined (WLTP) 11.0 – 10.5 l/100 km, CO emissions* combined (WLTP) 251 – 239 g/km, CO2 class G ), delivers significantly improved driving performance. The 911 Carrera GTS Coupé accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3.0 seconds and reaches a top speed of 312 km/h. The 911 Carrera will also be available immediately upon the launch of the new model. It is powered by a lightly modified 3.0-litre twin-turbo boxer engine (911 Carrera: Fuel consumption* combined (WLTP) 10.7 – 10.1 l/100 km, CO emissions* combined (WLTP) 244 – 230 g/km, CO2 class G ) that is more powerful than its predecessor’s. The new 911 also features a revamped design, better aerodynamics, a fresh interior, upgraded standard equipment and expanded connectivity.

With the relaunch of its iconic model, Porsche has modernised four of its six model lines in just a few months: Panamera, Taycan, Macan and 911. “Our product portfolio is younger than ever and highly attractive,” says CEO Oliver Blume. “It offers our customers even more customisation options and exclusive experiences.”

Not a great sounding engine.

Seeing how Ferrari did a pretty good job with 296 allowing 15 miles of electric range I was also expecting similar figures from Porsche, not just electric assistance.
I don't see this hybrid engine as a big achievement over the previous one, ok its a bit faster and more responsive but also more expensive, not to mention if the electric turbo dies its 10k repair bill.

Nobody needs a 911 in general if you can get a Skoda Fabia for 1/35 the price.
This is what I don’t get.. the Cayenne has dialed back its use of smaller motors to stuff powerful gas guzzling V8s. I can guarantee that the take rate on each of those V8s (S,GTS, Turbo etc) is much higher than any 911 variant. Why the heavier hybrid setup on the GTS? They claim it’s for eliminating turbo lag but surely 110lbs (with the rear seats will be more like 130-140) will be felt somewhere?

Also what was the need to add almost 100 hp to a GTS? Something is not adding up.

If I was to guess there will be an 800/850hp turbo S in some hybrid guise that will be about 1850-1950 kg..

I disagree, execution aside, but purely from an engineering principal, it makes way more sense than a plug in hybrid. The Porsche unit is recycling energy that would be otherwise wasted as heat vs lugging a big battery and burning fuel to charge it.

I get that they wanted to make hybrid that doesn't feel like one but both have similar weight however Ferrari has bigger battery which also helps with fuel economy and degradation over time. I wonder how much will cost to replace the Porsche battery after 10 years when its done over 3000 cycles.

According to Evo, 1st drives will occur in June. We shouldn't have too long to discover how it drives and if this hybrid transition is worth it.

I think its worth it because it removes the turbo lag but the price increase is massive. A nicely optioned GTS is 200k euro. Turbo S gets into Ferrari/Lambo territory.

No one buys these cars for fuel economy.

Post-covid car market has brands thinking they have underpriced their lineup. The car market in the US is cooling with dealer inventory volume and a car's days on lot increasing.

Really? Idk - the old layout trying to mimic a key ... didn't really look good imho and was questionable from an ergonomic/usability perspective. So in all honesty ... there are bigger sacrileges than this one?

Like all icons when they get older. They always develop a fat Ass.

That's what I told a former MILF personal trainer of mine, and for some reason, she doesn't talk to me anymore. Come to think of it, it's like she disappeared from Instagram. Weird... But it's not my fault that no matter how hard she exercises and follows a rigorous diet, the fact of the matter is that aging is a relentless and cruel mistress. She'll never look as good as her ex-husband's younger new (hotter) wife.

Still, the Porsche 911 has aged way better than her. Funny how cars tend to age better than women, even when Porsche decides to hire GM bean counters as pointed by the post of @Ghost1 above.
