He's not a big lump of lard like Julius either. Hope he can do this in competition, unlike that dodgy deadlift PB that's pretending to be a WR.
Wierzbicki has done 447.5kg in competition with no wrist straps, i.e. raw grip. Only Benedict Magnusson in his prime has lifted more with no straps.

This is an interesting one. At the time Hafthor Bjornsson deadlifted 501kg, he also failed 430kg without equipment. This puts Krzysztof Wierzbicki's 502.5kg sumo lift without equipment in perspective. And Benedict Magnusson's 460.5kg conventional with no equipment.

it’s sumo I doubt he could get anywhere near 500kg doing a proper deadlift. It’s more like a rack pull rather than a feat of brut strength like Thor or Eddies lifts.

And yet Eddie has admitted that he can't lift anywhere near as much with a sumo stance. Nor Larry Wheels either.

Respectfully, most people who say this don't know what they're talking about. Sumo is easier on the back if done right but way harder on the lower body off the ground. The lower body strength required to move 502.5kg off the ground in a sumo stance is off the scale.

I used to train both, I always found sumo easier. Sumo is like a powerlifters bench press, or a half squat. the idea is to give you the shortest range of motion possible.

mid you’re gonna introduce quote from Eddie and Larry provide a link to what they said otherwise you’re pulling it out of your arse.

A wider stance artificially shortens the lifter's legs and therefore reduces the range of motion significantly compared to conventional form. This is why most lifters can pull more weight using sumo and is the choice for competitive powerlifters – the shorter range of motion.

I'll do better than that. Larry wheels struggling with sumo.

Brian Shaw struggling with sumo.

This guy can lift 390kg conventional. He struggles with 306kg and it's not really a proper sumo technique either. You can see how he struggles off the floor and in the end just resorts to lower back strength because his legs were incapable.

It's not all about range of motion, a bicep curl has more RoM than holding the same weight out at arms length and moving it up 3 inches.

This means nothing, Larry pulled 320kg first try at sumo, it he trained sumo more he would probably end up lifting more than he does conventional.

Basically I don't care what you have to say, a sumo lift isn't as impressive as a conventional deadlift, it's a copout, the two shouldn't be compared.

He's a powerlifter so there's no reason he wouldn't if that was really the case, since sumo is allowed in powerlifting.

I do both, and find very little difference. Sumo is harder off the ground, conventional is harder on lockout.

WRs for each vary across the weight categories. I should note that the conventional WR for the 90kg class is now over 400kg (John Haack), higher than the best sumo pull.
