I'm considering the new C in my next car shopping list, but I'd like to know the following (and I'm too lazy to call or google it).

... I'm used to BMW service so my cost for a 3 year lease is one set of winter tyres and one brake pad change.

Since MB doesn't offer free maintnance, what is the regular maintenance/service schedule?

I assume MB uses synthetic oil so changes should be around evey 15k km or so, right?

Or better yet, what is the total cost of ownership I can expect for a 3 years term (excluding tyres)?

I might be able to give you an indication of how much it will cost, although we have a W211 E-class, but the servicing system should be the same.

1st oil change isn't due until 15k km, but I got it done at 8000km. The next service won't be due in another 20k km for us, according to the car computer.

I don't know how much MB Canada charge for an engine oil and filter change. but besides this and things like brake fluid and pads. that should be it.

It's hard to say since these days the board computer will tell you when the car needs to go for servicing. The computer monitors the engine oil levels as well as various functions and if something is wrong, it will tell you what is wrong (if that system has a sensor) or that there is something wrong and needs to be checked.

We also have a W211 E-Class and the first service was after 15,000 km and I believe it goes down to every 10,000 km after that. My guess is that this could be the same with the new C-Class. Might also depend on the engine. :eusa_thin

hi siko hope this will help you a little

ok i have 3 examples ok

the e270cdi i have 2002 model it goes in for a service every 15 to 17 thousand km.s

the ml 320cdi 2006 i have is around 20 thous km's

the new c220cdi i have according to my dealer is also around 20 thousand kms depending on mydriving

oh yeah i forgot we have a vito 2.o cdi engine or 2.2 cdi engine it does a oil change every 25 thousand kms..i have 60 thousand km its been for service twice and still far from the next service...

The new C class can go as far as 25000 km before service. It's all depends on your driving style and the driving condition. There is no set kms before servicing. The on board computer will tell you when the car needs to be serviced, but on averagre it's approximately 15000 - 20000 kms.

just curious y u did yours at 8000km instead of the recommended distance as determined by the onboard computer? Curious because the MB dealer said the cars don't need run-ins while japanese brands i'm familiar with require a check shortly after a new car is put on the road. :t-cheers:

I was going through the MBworld forum and the owners were talking about when the 1st oil change should be done. A few of them got it done before the recommended 1st service interval but some just stick with the guideline. One owner actually took a sample of the engine oil and sent it to the lab for analysis, and found out there are sufficient metallic particles in the oil to require an oil change. I can’t remember the exact mileage of the guy’s car but that got me thinking.

I check the dipstick (MB put them back in their new engine) and found out the oil is getting a bit low and dark in colour, and the car was over a year old at that time, so I took it for an oil change just in case.

Even though the dealer said the cars dont' need run-ins, the owner manual did say to take it easy on the 1st 1500km, so I trust the manual.

The MB is definitely heaps easier to maintain than my Subaru. It managed to drink 2 L of engine oil within the 1st week of run in, and its 1st service is at 2500km.

Thanks for the info guys.

The sales guys confirmed what you guys said when I saw him last week.
