What I have found in my many test drives is that the GLE does not feel right to me unless it is specced with eABC. Otherwise it is purely setup for a leisurely drive. I do disagree on their experience with MBUX though; once you get over the initial learning curve I find it quite easy to use. iDrive is instantly more familiar though and it's included in absolutely fantastic product. The X5 is selling well in my area for good reason. Still a dearth of X7s though strangely.

I assume the AMG GLE53 will help bridge the gap but this just reminds me of my drives in the E400.

Not many GLEs are going to come equipped with the eABC option.

I’m very surprised that many of the reviews and comparison tests of the X5 have been with the X line and not M sport I would have assumed that would have been more popular.

Yep, which is why I mentioned the AMG GLE53 being the primary option for those wishing for driving dynamics. I suspect ~10-15% of GLEs will come with it.

At least in the U.S., the magazines request the model and engine they want and end up taking whatever the manufacturer delivers in terms of options. Not much leeway there.

Some people still believe that Mercedes builds better engines than BMW but that’s only on paper. The B58 has no equal, the true rival to the X5 40i will the upcoming GLE53 AMG. The M50i will be in a different league altogether. All X5 variants handily outperform similar specced GLEs. I expect to see more victories for the X5 over the GLE even if the GLE can win some as long as the X5 is the sportier and faster of the two as has every generation of X5 I’ll be cool with it.

Give me one BMW model that is heavier than MB counterpart. There are virtually none. GLE 450 is 120kg heavier than X5, that's why (probably) you said BMW builds better engines because X5 perfomance is better than GLE's.
And C&D observed fuel economy for both X5 and GLE is 13 mpg.

Also all bmws are lighter cause they are made with crap materials that why the cave in around 100-150k km if you are lucky to even get it up there without extensive repairs.. lol

So you know this for every engine both companies build or is this just your usual clueless cheerleading?

I'm guessing the latter.

I have a deposit on an X5 as I type, and I need to decide what to do by the end of today, but I'm thinking I may cancel it and order a GLE just wind this clown up.

Of course you do, you don't have to tell us every single time. Jesus.

As for the GLE/GLS....... nice effort by MB, just too bad BMW exists too. Because it's going to play second fiddle yet another generation. So nothing new.
2 comparison tests by the German press and the GLE has won 1 test and the X5 the other test but both have been within a few points of each other. So looks Mercedes doesnt play second fiddle they have blown the nickers of the BMW clean off lol

Let me guess.....GLE win in Auto motor und Stuttgart-local patriots :)

With such a vast array of tyre, wheel and suspension options, particularly on the GLE, these comparisons really need to try and insist on more comparable set ups to be able to draw more meaningful conclusions.

That said I believe style, brand preference and showroom appeal will play a far greater roll in purchase decisions compared to say ride and handling finesse which when we face it will be just fine on both vehicles for 95% of their intended targets 95% of the time.

I'll do a deal with you. I'll only mention it when he calls me a "bigot" and a "narcissist" completely unprovoked. ;)

Anyway, despite the overwhelming urge to buy a GLE out of spite, this afternoon I shook hands on a new X5. I won't clog up this thread any more though, and I'll post elsewhere in due course.

A bit of a correction from C&D the X5 in their article actually had air suspension and not steel suspension so the X5 was both comfortable and sportier than the GLE.
