This is what's wrong with some members of this forum. Klier, a fanboy of the highest order, makes a whinging post about an influx of MB fanboys which hadn't happened, and still hasn't happened, creating an argument where none exists. I call him out on this and then somehow I'm "stupid" and get rated "old" and accused by @braaf of "trolling"!

@braaf , I suggest you look up what "troll" actually means in a forum context, because it certainly isn't me. The only troll in this thread in the last couple of hours has been Klier with his unnecessary dig and attempt to create an argument with MB fans. Klier will openly admit himself that he deliberately provokes, so don't be surprised when people react to it.

Typical Carwow/Mat Watson review really. I knew the outcome before I even watched a second of the video.

On many occasions previous gen BMWs lost to current gen Mercs reviewed by Matt.

I find it just as easy to nitpick at the quality of theX5 as I do the GLE, yet he always fails to call out BMW's and Audi's on their quality shortcomings. And they're there make no bones about it. The ivory 'Individual' leather interior of this particularX5 would certainly help with showroom appeal.

BMW have stepped up their quality game and even Audi were caught by surprise. Many reviews I've seen make mention of this.

This whole iDrive/MBUX debate is now silly. Sure he personally prefers the iDrive, but the new MBUX is just as intuitive with familiarity and offers some advantages over iDrive. They are both top shelf systems though with their pros and cons.

Agreed, the Merc system is great, but again as many reviews have stated Idrive is just that bit better.

Also what's the point in complaining about 3rd row seats that are clearly intended for children on both theX5 andGLE? Eni did make a very good point some time back in another thread, and that is the AudiQ7 clearly benefits from being half a class larger than theX5 andGLE. WhereasMercedes andBMW have theGLS andX7 to satisfy those wanting more space, and they make a pretty penny out of the extra $$ that privilege requires, Audi is playing both fields with theQ7 and the benefits in space and practicality are evident.

Agreed 100%. Any adult would struggle to find comfortable seating in any 3rd row of any SUV. You're better off in a Mercedes Sprinter or something similar.

If you're in this market, comfort should be a priority IMO and this would cost theBMW a few points in my book, because not even my X3 M40i offers anywhere close to what I would describe as an enthusiastic/enjoyable drive experience. So I seriously doubt these behemoths are any better on that front.

I think it's because of these kind of vehicles inherent attributes of being tall and heavy vehicles that they're all compromised. In the few reviews I've seen of the new GLE the common complaint has been the wallowing effect of the soft suspension. The BMW is the best of both worlds and I suspect if you ditch the run flats you'll get an better quality ride out of it.

Okay mate I apologize for calling you a troll. Like I said, enjoy your new ride.

VERDICT
On the whole, however, we found this trio to be overwrought, overpriced as equipped, and strangely underwhelming. That’s simply not good enough for the cream-of-the-crop darlings of a popular—and perhaps vastly overrated—market segment.

Well that was an unexpected ending.

I've long thought the iDrive is the best of the big three's HMI, and I still do, but I've just been playing around with the iDrive OS 7.0 in an X5 at my local Dutch BMW dealer, and I have a few reservations about it. It certainly isn't as intuitive as the old iDrive OS. I hope I get used to it, but I feel at the moment it's a step back.

I've seen a lot of reviews complaining about MB's touchpads being too sensitive. The sensitivity is adjustable, but perhaps they need to turn it down from the factory.

To be fair they're not using the AMG pack. Not sure about the Porsche cos i couldn't be bothered about Porsches.
 ! ! !

I can't think of many other car marques to be more bothered by. The ownership experience is quite something.

It's not so much the sports cars Martin and more the fat heavy behemoths. It's like how you feel about BMW and front wheel drive. It's like that with me for Porsche. Not a fan at all of their SUVs. Not one bit.

Fair point. Personally I'd rather an X5 over a Cayenne too. But mate, like how I feel about BMW and FWD? Do you utterly despise their SUVs that much?!? :D

They aren’t using AMG or M sport would be nice if they did.

Not necessary to react to everything the little man says, nobody cares.
Be surprised..

Don’t think the S58 is up for evaluation yet, it’s too new. However I do think there’s a BMW engine that won something for 2019 somewhere in there, you’d be hard pressed to find a BMW engine that hasn’t won something since 1999.

"Doesn't deliver anything like enough 911 magic".

Next week they review the new 911 and conclude: "Doesn't deliver anything like enough Cayenne off-road magic".
