Daily: a BMW 330 e (regretfully my real needs go beyond a normal car and currently I drive a 9 seat long version Opel Vivaro - three kids and already 3 Golden retrievers).
Fun driving slow: an E30 Alpina version 2,7 l 200 ps, cabrio if possible
Driving fast is only for the track.

And if you could only have one car at a time, what would it be, that's more difficult to think

And if you could only have one car at a time, what would it...

That IS difficult.

As things currently stand, THIS would tempt me as my sole automobile vehicular Swiss army knife:

In 55 TSFI e Quattro guise.

And if you could only have one car at a time, what would it be, that's more difficult to think

For me it's easy to limit the choices if it's something I'd have to use everyday. My criteria.... need to be able to fit a weeks worth of camping gear in it... it needs to be able to do 500 miles in relative comfort, and it needs to be able drive out of a muddy field. This means I'm always likely to choose a tourer from Alpina.

Lexus LS 500h and... Actually, scratch that. This is a very complicated question and I remembered that I'm not a huge fan of the way the new LS looks.

I posed the problem without having a clear answer, is difficult, but I think it would be the new M4 coupe, due to the youth complex that I want to keep and despite the fact that it will be a relatively practical car, if I have to carry many passengers and load I would love to make two trips

And if you could only have one car at a time, what would it...

I was going to say a 540i Touring but....
Subaru Outback XT. Decent power, decent utility, decent reliability. At the end of the day, while I do like all the luxury, gizmos, and doo-dads, knowing that car will work as intended with little a fuss is nice feature.

Pistol to my head with two seconds to decide on two cars that I want in my garage.:

..Ummm...

Porsche 992 Carrera 4S Targa
Audi A6 55 TSFIe Avant S-Line

Just one car but any car? Tough one.

M5 Competition.

I find it a more interesting dilemma to choose just ONE car rather than a "garage" as such. The M5 Comp would be up there, but I think edging it would be the current RS 6 Avant, just for the added load space.

So, I guess I would be trading driving satisfaction for practicality.

I find it a more interesting dilemma to choose just...

That's one reason why I find the A6 55TFSIe Avant S-line my automotive "Swiss Army Knife". With all due admiration of the RS6 Avant, it's simply a bit "too much" for my taste. Visually as well as in terms of content. At my age, I really do not need an estate that does 0-100km/h in some 3.5 secs and tops out at over 300km/h with the "performance option". The 55TSFIe is plenty quick enough, has (to me) immense eye-appeal, represents at least a smidgen of environmental sustainability and is certainly practical enough for me. I really do not find SUVs' and SACs' "desirable" in the sense of being potential "dream cars". Quite the opposite actually. That being said, I own a KIA Sportage. Not a "dream car" by any standard, but for my current requirements, very practical, cheap to run, good value for money ratio and...not an automobile that I am at all emotionally tied to. That's good because otherwise, I'm seriously anal retentive when it comes to nicks, dings and scratches. That shit doesn't really bother me much with the KIA.
