@Sunny is going to have a heart attack.I think the most well-rounded daily-driving car on sale right now is the M-B E450 All-Terrain. Spec that in Verde Silver, Tonka Brown Nappa Leather, and natural grain brown maple wood trim WITHOUT the SuperScreen, and you have *chef's kiss.* This may be the most appealing M-B in their current line-up that's not a G-wagen. Yes, I find it more appealing than the current AMG GT and S-class. I think it engenders M-B's core values, at least, what were their core values: quality, confident design, useful tech, solid pwertrain, etc. The only mild sore spot is the need to put the three-pointed star in the taillights. In and of itself, it looks fine, but when you consider it's a not-so-subtle nod to their emblem, I just can't help get a whiff of desperation.
I think the new 4Runner will make a welcoming addition to the list. In Trailhunter guise, it's admittedly over-the-top, but dammit, I love how it looks.
Now, onto the list.....
Porsches
718 GT4 RS...I'll go deaf, but I'll enjoy it too. Probably.
718 Boxster GTS 4.0....Yeah, the Spyder RS should have been a shoe-in, but as a livable soft-top where I want minimal fuss, that roof looks needlessly annoying.
992 S/T...The hype got me, but....
992 GT3....I think this would be my favorite 992 911.
991.2 GT3....I saw one today, and I still love this thing.
997 GT3 RS 4.0....it's a modern legend.
993 Turbo....one of those Porsches that sucked me in as a wee lad. It has to be in Arena Red. Has to be.
930 Turbo slant nose
959
Carrera GT
918 Spyder
2nd gen Panamera with the Sport Turismo body.
Ferrari
599 GTO... I don't care how many successive generations of the Berlinetta Speciales they come out with, this will likely always be numero uno to me, but....
550 Maranello...in the last few years, I've grown to appreciate it's perfect, elegant proportions.
F40...because legend.
F50...because underappreciated legend with an F1-derived engine.
250 GTO....because I'm classy AF *cue scene of Nic Cage in Gone in Sixty Seconds*
458 Speciale.... last NA V8.
F12 TdF....peak modern Ferrari. Pininfarina-derived design with an interior that's not all capacitive touch switchgear and screens.
12Cilindri Spyder....the name forbodes the last of V12 from Ferrari as we currently know them: no turbos, no electrification. Basically no faff. It looks good, and in Spider guise, doesn't have as much black-panelling in the rear. Having said that, I may be smitten by its new-ness.
F430 Scuderia...just holds a special place in my heart. The 16M may have been the first Ferrari I've ever sat in and I remember how perfect it felt.
LaFerrari....let's just forget the V12 hybrid powertrain with oodles of oomph and trick aero, and let's focus on the design. This modern Ferrari has some of the most interesting design details. I imagine every time you stare at it, you'll discover something new. OK, now add back the V12 and aero back into the equation, and you got something pretty darn special.
288 GTO
Enzo.....everything is great, but their homage to F1 design and the lack of subtlety sometimes ages it badly to my eyes.
Note: I'm sure I am missing something iconic.
Lamborghini
Huracan Perfomante.....Green on gold wheels.
Diablo SV....because NFS III
Countach.....the first supercar as we know it? Probably.
McLaren
720S....I thinks its design is iconic. Tons of quirks.
P1....Brutal. In black, it makes H.R. Geiger proud.
GMA
T.33....Cossie-developed high-revving V12 in an attractive package that Gordon Murray fussed over? Yes, please and make it a Spider!
Aston Martin
Vanquish S Volante....peak A-M, IMO. VH A-M's were a masterclass in GT design.
Vanquish S.... it's so good-looking that, while in Volante form, it'd be delight for 4 out of 5 senses. But to truly appreciate its design, you also need to see how it looks in its coupe form. Honestly, and this maybe an unpopular opinion, but this is one of those rare instances where the Zagato versions were NOT better looking than what it was based on.
Bentley
3rd Gen Conti GTC....one of the best high-end luxury cars made. Melds modern and classical very well. I'll take the V8, please.
Mulsanne
Early 2000's Continental R
Rolls-Royce
Dawn....still want to drive this along the French Rivera
2nd gen Ghost EWB....if I want to be chaufferred but find the Phantom to be a bit "much"
Audi
Ur Quattro....rally icon, and because this is the closest thing to it....
RS3
1st gen R8 V10.....iconic German mid-rear design that's not a Porsche.
1st or 2nd gen S7 or RS7. Best looking 4-door Audi.
Chevrolet
Corvette C8 Z06
Corvette C8 ZR1
C6 Z06
C4 ZR-1
Camaro ZL1
Ford
GT
Mustang Shelby GT350
Dodge
1969 Charger
Pagani
Zonda
Lexus
LFA.....like the 599GTO, I don't foresee my adoration for this car will ever wane.
1st gen SC
LC500....in Nori Green or Copper, probably a convertible to better enjoy the NA V8.
GX550....yes, 4Runner is similar, but they did such a good job.
2nd gen GS....particularly, the GS430 gave the German exec cars a run for their money.
1st gen LS400....shifter of luxury sedan paradigms.
4th gen LS....I think LS460 is a handsome and elegant design.
1st gen IS
IS500...NA V8 in a relatively small car is lovely formula.
Ugh, I am tired...I'll continue later and, yes, I am taking the "ULTIMATE" to the extreme! BMW, M-B, Maser, Alfa, Bugatti, Toyota, Honda, Restomods, and more to come. This list will be so long, it'll make @Merc1 look like he's slacking on the job!
I'll be honest, starting the list with Porsche and Ferrari was a bad idea because it ended up being more an automaker's greatest hits than an Ultimate Garage where some "critical" thought went into why each choice was made. The real impetus for this post was seeing an E-class specced with the Verde Silver over Brown leather and thinking how good it looked and how fetching it'd look on the All-Terrain.@Sunny is going to have a heart attack.
Man, Jimbo… Don’t tell me you like eggs so much…Right now ? Money no object...good home charging possibilities...

What I would currently perceive as "the ideal car". For me.
I think they are a bit anonymous looking compared to the very distinctive R230.Interesting to see a R231 SL. The market was very unkind to it, but I like it more now that its out of production.
Thank you. I thought people would just skip it, if it was text-only. It's a lot of cars to take in.
Yup, shame that whatever I mentioned is either a German classic or just German-ownedWell, to rekindle this thread, I felt like I needed to provide my two cents on the matter as well.
I don't need a million cars, so let me categorize 10 of my top picks as follows:
Crown Jewel: Bugatti Tourbillon
- NEW CARS
Absolutely infatuated w/ this car since its unveiling last summer, and what a car it is as well.
Insane power, insane engineering, super-minute/precise design details, that naturally V16 engine by Cosworth w/ the way it sounds, and of course – an interior that's second to none, sparing no expense to go with it.
Not so much a car, but more a work of art on all accounts
Work of Art #2: Pagani Utopia
Yet another absolute work of art, with a peach of a V12 engine + masterfully crafted interior + a manual transmission
Work of Art #3 (meets racing pedigree): Ferrari SP3 Daytona
Everything the F80 should have been in terms of design, as well as ICE specs, as far as I am concerned.
Mid-engined V12 insanity: Lamborghini Revuelto
Naturally aspirated V12, 1015 HP when coupled w/ the Hybrid drivetrain. Typical insanity, Lambo style
(Not to mention the design has really grown on me)
Mid-engine Ferrari: Ferrari 296 GTB
Well, it is a mid-engined Ferrari (duh!) and one of the prettiest cars on sale today.
Luxury: Rolls-Royce Spectre
Exceeded my expectations in every way (though I didn’t have much, prior to the car’s launch TBH).
I think they’ve done a great job with this car
Childhood Dream #1: Ferrari F40
- CLASSICS
Enough said
Childhood Dream #2: BMW 850 Csi
I know it was unloved, therefore didn’t sell well, but grew up adoring its sleek looks & V12 engine
True American Classic: 1949 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible
From the good old times when Caddies were the kings of the hill
Lexus RZ
- DAILY DRIVER
Of course, the daily driver needs to keep up with the times (so it gets to be an EV), and a comfortable + reliable one at that
This sounds good.Revisiting following about 9 months of not following the thread...
Well...as it's primarily a "German" car forum and due to little from German manufacturers that currently seem to genuinely excite me, I can keep it simple:
Everyday sort of car for all sorts of chores and errands: Porsche Macan-E 4S
"Fun" as well as quite "usable" car: Porsche 992.2 Carrera T coupe
Classic for those nice, sunny and dry weekends: Porsche 356B 2000GS Carrera coupe
"Rudimentary and Rugged Beater": First gen- M-B (or Steyr-Puch) G-Wagon SWB.
