@Human

You sure a hell can compare the S class to the Lesser models from Bentley and RR.

Why? well lets see

1. History
2. Tech
3. Innovation.
4. Power
5. Design

MB has all of this to match or above RR and Bentley?

What is actually RR and Bentley, 2 brands that had a great history YEARS back, when Mercedes had an even better one?
2 brands that failed miserably while Mercedes soared?
And 2 brands that today are owned by the Germans, which would be thought as worse than self mutilation back in the heydays of the 2 brands?.

The only thing the RR and Bentley has over the S is the NAME, or actually not even the Name, its more of the perceived Prestige, and also exclusivity.

2 things that are WAY easier to achieve than the 5 stated above.
Make a car in limited numbers with a huge price, and there is your exclusivity.

Never mind that its on a ancient platform, and ancient tech, it will sell , cause the rich do not care, they just want to be different or say keep up with the (enter any blue blood high society family name).

So yes a 600 and 65 AMG can easily go up against the Conti or the Ghost.

The Mulsanne and Phantom is out of the S class reach.

for now;)

PS
And when it comes to trims and leathers, lol that is not the issue here.
You can go designo, you can even go to Brabus, and it will look like any RR and Bentley and then some;).

Good and strong points you have made that will most certainly be welcomed by Merc1 and others. I believe much of it to be true and we all know what an S-class is, was and represents also I know M-B's rich and long history by heart, need no lecture @mac1 from anyone on the subject. Been there done that, grew up with a father that ONLY drove Benz, owned and drive Mercedes myself and experienced the DAIMLERCHRYSLER merger + quality issues etc. Benz is most certainly back with a HUGE, HUGE bang in the W222, techno-masterpiece it is...

Yet, the ONLY one you have to convince is yourself. I am not regarding the S vs RR vs Bentley debate. Not going to be.

So, please leave me be at that topic. I am sure millions will agree with all who believes in that theory of the debate and your post will earn you many likes, agrees and maybe a few winners! I only had 1 like on my original post that started it all and a sh!t load of disagrees and a dislike from LaArtist - Mission accomplished ;) (y)

PS: just wish M-B lend 0.75 of a percent of the W222's brilliant tactile and perceived quality to the, much to expensive, shitty quality A-class. Damn!

Nice we agree:D

I thought I read somewhere that the Ghost is based on the 760li? At least engine and tranny.

rofl i bet none of you guys have ever driven all of the cars for long time?
i bet none of you owns everyone?

i had the audi a8, have 2 w221 s-classes and a 7s - i can tell you for me until the new s-class came out the winner
is the bmw 7s, it does everything nice, its sporty when you want it sporty, its comfortable when u want it it comforty.
it has the nicest interior, yes "highestofhigh" my interior looks like the one in your pic, and no its not everywhere plastic
like someone said here, its all fine leather, and after driven all cars more than 200.000 kms i can tell you, the most reliable is the bmw. ask me if you want to know details.

but with the new w221 the cards are new and fresh dealt, it seams to be the best, lets touch and drive before we put it on the throne, like some americans did with a president - just because of its name or origin ;)

just to tell you, in germany the audi a8 is no choice really, it is completely a side story.

and coming to the panamera.... too sporty, too tight, too hard suspension...

check the limousine services in germany, audi a8? panamera? not even questionable

100 people voted in this poll. 81 for the S-Class - 81% of 100... damn! :)
Round about the same dominance it will have in sales against the competition.

Usually when the S is new its like 7 out of 10 cars sold in the class are S class, the rest share 3 :D

Hopefully as it will push the development of the new 7-Series further and so the competition will be better than ever :)

For some reason the new S class reminds of the old W140 ... I would say best S class since then.

Well done!

S-class fans are so funny. What a devotion and addiction, I honestly don't understand it. Personally I rather have A250 Sport than a car with a size of a whale.

funniest thing is that they havent sat in it yet, let alone driven it, somehow its the best thing for them since sliced bread.

Uhmm are you serious? The A8? Better quality than the S-Class? You clearly haven't been in one. "Mind-blowing interior"? How's that cheap pop-up nav screen working for ya? It's just so classy isn't it? Both Audi and BMW have interiors as dry as toast. As dry as Nicole Kidman's acting if you ask me. Yes, Audi and BMW are premium car manufacturers, but they aren't luxury offerings in my book. On the other hand, Mercedes-Benz is luxury; it's what they define. That's why so many uninformed and uneducated car enthusiasts call them "old people cars", because they stand for world class luxury.

The funniest part is you mention it has Maybach/Bentley class. No... just no. Everything in that sentence is just so wrong. An Audi will never be on par with either of those two brands. And just to clarify, Maybach IS Mercedes-Benz. In fact, this S-Class is Maybach reinvented.
take off your mercedes glasses already

Funniest thing though, is how the others don't see that they act in exactly the same way, and sometimes for a probably less justifiable reason, as the one's they laugh above right now.

On the way to work this morning I saw a face lifted 7er with the M Sports Pack. Nothing dated about it! It was never designed to be as polarizing as its predecessor so we may have got used to it, but visually it's still a great mix of sports and luxury with the muscular lines and surface treatments working beautifully with the premium aspects of it imposing size.

The S-class does indeed look nice, as with all new Benz's the AMG Sports Package really brings it to life with a sporty flare, but the 7er in the right combinations can look equally stunning (and at the moment we're seeing photos of the new S in its best combinations).

Not sure if this has been posted yet...
