biased...
who needs this.. who needs that..
THEN GO AND GET A NISSAN GT-R!!!
I have to say, who cares about all these sporty stuff when you're testing very luxurious car like one of these..
The Jag was clearly worse than the BMW, but because it was a bit more fun to drive it won...

It is just plain silly to compare a brand speaking new S Class against a relatively ancient 7 Series. Wait for the new 7er to come out in a few years and then we can compare apples to apples.

Even the outgoing S-Class was more than a match for the current 7 Series!

And the F01 is hardly "relatively ancient".

Well unfortunately for the 7 series, the new S-class is out now, and in the real world, customers will compare what are currently available to them on the market.

Well then the S class will be relatively ancient too compared to the new 7er ;)

I always love when folks state that one car is better than another as if what they are saying is an objective fact. Good for you that you think that even the outgoing S Class was tons better than the current 7er. But please remember that is simply your opinion, and no matter how forcefully you state it, it remains a mere opinion.

Anyway, since we are sharing opinions, here's mine. I think the new S Class has raised this class of cars to another level. It truly is a ridiculously impressive car. Of course, that doesn't change the fact that all Mercs, except for the super cars, look like they should be driven by octogenarians.

And when the new 7 comes out in 2016, it will put the current S Class to shame.

Yep, it's the way things are. And it's a good thing because it means it moves the technology forward.
In not too long, the 'ancient' C63 AMG will be compared to a brand spankin' new M4 coupe. Is that fair?

At least I wait until the cars actually exist before comparing them! :D

Come back in three years son.

My point was that, no matter what the car is (when we are talking about cream of the crop brands like Merc and BMW), the one that is more recent by several years is going to beat out the older one, simply by virtue of new technology, etc.

You see, the difference between you and I is that I can acknowledge when Merc puts out a gorgeous car, like they did with the new S Class. You, on the other hand, appear to be such a blinders on Merc fanboy that whenever anyone dares to say anything even slightly negative about Mercs you resort to calling them "son." Says a lot about you.

Anyway, at the end of the day, some of us like Merc and some of us like BMW and some of us like both. The fact remains, however, that they both make phenomenal cars and it really is six in one, half dozen in the other.

I am not defending Betty, but he is absolutely not a Mercedes fan boy or a fan boy of any brand. This is your 3rd post on this forum and you are already making accusations against other members and their personal characters. Please read the forum guidelines here http://www.germancarforum.com/community/help/rules-and-guidelines in case you haven't.

That's not necessarily true. New technology is only one aspect of the car.

Interesting that you went for the Merc fanboy angle when most people on here assume I'm a VAG fanboy seeing as I own three of their products. :D

The irony is that if I HAD to choose a favourite manufacturer it would be BMW. I've owned four BMW's in the last ten years, three of them M cars. I do LOVE the 7 Series. I've driven them extensively over many weeks. But I've also driven an W221 S-Class and it really blew me away. I can't imagine what the W222 is going to be like.

No it's not.

Sounds like you are. :D

Thanks though! :)

Betty-

Just out of curiosity, why do you disagree with my statement "six in one, half dozen in the other" statement? To me, Merc and BMW r two phenomenal luxury car makers and the only real difference between the two is subjective taste. Anyway, just wondering what you think.

Because saying it's "six of one and half a dozen of the other" is just another way of saying the BMW is as good as the S-Class, and I don't agree with that. I love BMW and on its own I love the 7 Series, but when I drove the W221 S-Class two years ago over 2,000km and three days I thought it was a class above the many different versions of the 7 Series that I've driven. The 7 Series felt like a big 5 Series, both to drive and sit in. The S-Class felt like how I imagine a Bentley would drive. As for it being older than the 7 Series at the time, which it was, it certainly didn't feel like it when I was driving along a Belgian motorway, in the fog, with the TV screen instrument display using the night vision to help me see better.
