The Official Tire Thread - discuss your tyre experience/suggest a good tire

It's been a while since I posted here and being active 100%....The obstacles of life etc,,

Lately the F12 started to fight for traction and things were about to get very scary in Sport mode, it never felt this way in Sport mode, but it was a sign of aging tires that no longer could handle all that power.

Nothing lasts forever and tires on high performa...
Nice switch. As far as sheer stickiness and dry weather performance goes Michelin Pilot Super Sport are amongst the best.

How come the tyres on the F12 had cracks on the side walls? Was the car parked in extreme direct sun for the majority of the year.

I am glad your Gallardo is 2WD as not having a centre diff allow you to put almost any tyre you want on it without worrying about a centre diff.

I've heard several other people who used PSS ended up with cracks, mine was almost 5 years old and almost 20k (km) of high speed runs, cornering and hard braking.

Thanks Monster!

I'll try to catch up and see what I've missed :)

I guess if they don't crack it means that you are not driving the car hard enough. :D

A front wheel drive BMW X1 on Winter tyres vs a 4WD BMW X1 on Summer tyres at Goodyear's test facility in Finland. The result is rather definitive.

So my Michelin Supersport is being replaced with wintertyres later today. Michelin Alpin 5, never used them before. Going to be intresting to see how they cope with the winter season.

A similar test was done a few years ago but includes driving the cars uphill on snow!

I put new winter tyres on the A1 a couple of weeks ago, Continental Viking Contact 7. Its an unusual tread patter for a winter tyre, vastly different from the Viking Contact 6’s they replaced. So far for winter tyres they are very quiet and surprisingly good in the wet. Looking forward to some snow.

Very interesting pattern. I'm contemplating getting winter tyres for my Skoda Fabia. During snow/ice conditions in Feb/March this year it stood parked on the drive for 10 days as we used the X3 to get around.

Given the size of the Fabia, winter tyres shouldn't be too expensive.

Quite a bit different to the Viking Contact 6 which I used to have. These were a good tyre, I’ve had Continental winter tyres on most of our cars. The new A6 came with Nokian Hakkapeliitta r2 R2’s, it’s been a long time since I’ve had Nokians so it will be interesting to seee how they go.

Luckily I don't live in a part of the world which has changing seasonal weather but I would be interested to get your feedback on ride, comfort and 'feel' on the new tyres as opposed to the MPSS's - one of my all-time favourite tyres.

Since we don't get any snow around here and the Volvo consumed the Bridgestone RE002 Adrenaline like I consume beer after a long day at the office, I'm torn between the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 and the Bridgestone Potenza S001 which is finally available for 16" wheels.

Any ideas?

I have Potenza S001 on my A1, it's a nice tyre, a bit noisy and very good in the wet.

I remember Nokians being regularly advertised when I lived in Sweden.

Only had a brief time with my winter tyres. Not going to comment on handling and ride since I only had limited of time with MPSS as well but the wintertyres are more noisy and felt kinda stiffer.

I guess pretty much as expected regarding noise levels

Cup 2 R. I highly recommend this tyre. Normally I get stuck in a queue on the way to work but with this tyre I just drove along the roof of the tunnel straight past all the traffic.

Yes, I've lost access to the scans section again.

I forgot to add, the noise levels were terrible. Lots of beeping.
