The MYTH about the Audi A4 B8's interior quality...

Well I'm happy to report that our C-class interior remains in absolutely perfect condition, which is more than can be said for my aunts E90 3-series.

God only knows what has happened to that Audi.
You always had bad luck with BMW :D in the past when my parents owned E90 the interior was flawless, no squeeking or bad condition. Maybe they were lucky ;)

No, Just me, to it's credit the the interior is absolutely rattle free and feels rock solid. it's the 'soft touch' paint crap that BMW uses all over the place that has deteriorated and has become really sticky in some places and has peeled off in others. On the steering wheel it's even left exposed white plastic underneath. It really is horrid.

P.s. My aunt has given me the vehicle to sell for her now that she's enjoying her new CLA. :p Once this and my cousins X5 is sold (he's getting a GLA for his wife), my family will be BMW free! LOL

Ok, nothing I'm familiar with my parents BMW (they used to own prefacelift many years ago). Now they drive X1 and F20, no errors there either (so far).

I bought my S4 new, sold it to a good friend 12months later and re-bought it back after a several months before selling it when it was 3 years old. It's interior was in as good a condition with zero rattles or squeaks and this was a car owned by me with three kids one of which was in a chair and by a mate who had a 2 year old at the time so it got it's fair share of abuse with feet and sticky hands everywhere. I can't say if a 3 series or C-class would have fared any better or worse but I reckon that S4 interior as bulletproof.

Maybe our harsh sun and hot climate accelerates the deterioration of the soft touch paint surfaces.

^^ Haha! Amazing that they're still hosted.

My two cents… The B8 interior… and more specifically, the Pre-FL B8 interior - is a class above its peers. Compared to the C-Class and E90 of its time, it made them feel a generation behind, and compared to the F30, it still feels more substantial.

Specifically comparing the B8 to the outgoing C-Class there's no comparison. You don't feel cost cutting in Audi's cabin. You can tell the engineers put real effort into making sure everything that would come into contact with your hands felt substantial. The weakest link is the MMI switchwork, which has a slightly brittle 'resistance click' feel, instead of an effortless 'thunk.'

Very interesting read Mr. Mercedes. I own a 2012 pre-facelift B8 3.0 TDI. I agree with the fact that standard interior plastics were a bit flimsy, especially around the instrument cluster on the dash. However since the B8 was released in '08 the door trims, and centre cup holder 'area' surround has been changed to an actual aluminium surround. I changed all of the silver interior garnishes to piano black to have more of a flow through with interior design, which was a much better idea, however was slightly expensive at approximately $900 for the total job. In regards to other German vehicles in its class. I drove the W204 C-Class at the time of buying my Audi, and found the interior far more dated over the Audi. The pop up nav screen seemed cheap, the wood grain look was a bit too much, and the buttons on the dash (the phone numbers especially) made it feel like a pre 2000 luxury business saloon (you know, the ones with the telephone that was built in). I also drove the pre update 3 series BMW, of which the interior was quite nice, however cheap feeling buttons and 'tacky' orange coloured dash lights along with the terrible ride made it feel out-dated and horrible. I will agree with you in the sense that the headlight switch is very cheap feeling, however I feel as though the rest of the interior is quite nice, and pleasing to look at, with 80,000kms on it now, the ride is still as smooth as ever, even on 19" S5 alloys, the interior plastics have faired well in the North Queensland weather as well as the paint on the exterior. The leather on the seats feels and looks as new, due to regular treatment and conditioning. Overall the A4 is a fantastic city, and highway driver, and not to mention the looks I still get.
