Has anyone seen Everything,Everywhere all at Once?
We don't get it till May. Looks bizarre and original in a good way.

Top Gun: Maverick
9/10
Gets docked 1 point for appropriating two key story features:
- The Chuck Yeager test pilot pushing the envelope thing - that's pure The Right Stuff
- The impossibly difficult, fly through a narrow corridor, armed to the teeth on both sides, to hit an equally impossibly small target whilst evading enemy fighters... now where've we seen that before?
For the rest of it - it's great. A love letter to manned aerial combat in the jet age. It's sentimental and doesn't take itself too seriously either.

Bullet Train.
It's refreshing to know that people in Hollywood just want to entertain you. It's not a block buster per se. It's still a damn good time at the movies. Hilarious, dark and action packed. Thankfully It's no Under Seige 2.

Prey.
Finally a worthy addition to the Predator series.
Washes the bad aftertaste of the last two entries.
Excellent. But it’s quality is diminished as it’s made for streaming. Looks like the next Alien project after the TV Show will also be made for streaming.

Snap. Just watch that today as well. Very good.

Finally watched Dune last weekend, excellent film but the ending was maybe a little disappointing, I felt like it was building up to something bigger.

Predator was an absolute classic.
Predator 2 was a massively under-rated sequel in my opinion.

Nothing else subsequently has come close.... AvP's and Predator sequels have just been shit.

It is, put that's in part two :D

The fact that part two wasn't greenlit until the first part hit the screens was a massive, massive gamble. If you've remember David Lynch's Dune, you should have a fair idea what's still to come.

The Gray Man. 7/10 - fun but ultimately frivolous action buoyed by a main cast that’s oh-so-watchable.

There is a very familiar nod to Predator 2 in Prey.
I agree AVP had its moments but was generally awful. AVP:R was abysmal.

I've just watched Prey.

The nod being the musket.

Prey, though less shit than the AVP efforts does nothing to forward the franchise. At no point does the heroine have a worthwhile arc, not that Dutch did, but at least at that point, you didn't know how the entire film was going to go, and he did have a journey no matter how shallow - even if it was just to get to za choppa! The lead protagonists journey was spelt out in Prey within the first few minutes... the only question was how and when people were going to die - there were some good moments, but there's no standout set pieces and there's not tension or mystery. The call backs and the similarities might twang nostalgia strings but it's nothing that we've not seen before. It doesn't even manage to make an effective statement about the Comanche wars and that whole situation.

We've seen the Predator species, we know its modus operandi, there's no real tension for the audience and there's no effort made to create any useful story arcs.. Danny Glover in LA with a Desert Eagle was a contrast to Arnie in the Jungle. P2 was almost Verhoeven-esque compared to McTiernans excellently crafter action/tension masterpieces, like Predator, Die Hard and Hunt for Red October. Prey was just a paper thin coming of age story with rental-tension set pieces borrowed from everything from the Jurassic Park franchise to some network TV movie channel.

2 hours back story for one shot in a film in 1990.

Zero? What score did you give The Blair Witch Project then? That wasn't even a film, it was an unfinished high school drama assignment.

Top Gun:Maverick.
10/10
Sheer Entertainment. An old school pro-America blockbuster.
I agree, 10/10. Being able to dig up an old classic and actually produce something that's better than the original is no mean feat, and one that so many have failed.
