Wo-hooo

Lucid Air, but that car seem to hardly be available.

Yeah, not offering some sort of EV version of the S class made the car near obsolete from day one. As fantastic as the car is (which it is).
If the S-class is obsolete why is it still selling more than any other luxury saloon? Not all countries are electric obsessed and set up for electric cars. If you look at sales of electric cars they still have a long way to catch ICE cars. Sure the future will be ICE free but that will only perhaps happen in 2030 and beyond but this decade ICE still will be on the roads.

Indeed. As far as I’m concerned, no one in right mind would buy voluntarily a BEV in this luxury part of the market. They only offer disadvantages compared to ICE and are very often terribly designed. In case of EQS The lousy design is combined with a cost cutted interior. Here comes the i7 in the equation, offering a car that at least doesn’t look like a pathetic BEV, has plenty of usable space and… it looks like it’s pricetag.

Both aren't good looking car, no point debating unless to debate which is the winner of most ugly looking. They both look bad in different way, eye sore for me.

For the interior BMW wins all the way, revolutionary....(y)

Because we just came to the conclusion that the i7 and Air are the only other luxury cars that are EV.

Sorry to hurt your feelings.

Can't tell which car looks better. I am not an expert in sh*t varieties.

The Mercedes interior is more futuristic and more organic looking for me. But BMW has a great interior too which is finally corresponds to the level of a 7 series and not just a more luxurious version of 5 series. And i7 is a proper big luxury car with proper rear space and options unlike MB.

So my vote goes to BMW.

You know the next 5er is just in the corner that inevitably shares the interior with the 7er,right?

It is good to see postures that are more cerebral than passionate for a change

From the spy photos that doesn't seem to be the case.

I get that the EQS is ugly, but how is it not a luxury car?

It's like E class levels right? Which is also luxury of course.
No it isn’t, but even if was there still a luxury car so I don’t get what you’re saying here.

I know everyone has their own idea of luxury and it is is often conflated here with comfort and opulence. But that is not really the case - A Ferrari or 911 is a luxury product, but it is not really comfortable or opulent. In the end the only objective measure of luxury is the premium the market is willing to pay for a product compared to another that has the same utility.

The discussion around what constitutes luxury has been going around in this community since before this site was even established.
Whilst there are quantifiable and objective measures which can used to determine luxury e.g. price, exclusivity and craftsmanship there are other elements such as image, style and prestige which are more subjective perceptions.

The EQS is undeniably a luxury car in the objective sense of price, exclusivity and craftsmanship. Subjectively, in terms of the following, however:
  • Image - MPV-like silhouette has no historical foothold in the luxury car space; it’s more associated with practically-minded middle class mobility
  • Style - It doesn’t appear to resonate as stylish with many people, probably because it’s an odd looking car with jarring details like weird shutline placement and intersection; hyperscreen is more tech than luxury
  • Prestige - whilst the badge is undeniably prestigious, its portrayal is compromised by a frontal DRG design language that hasn’t been well received because it lacks the impact and identity of the traditional front-end
Of course, all entirely and personally subjective based on my own views and perceptions.

Yeah that is the way Tesla gets in cause it’s clearly not a luxury car.

Yes it is and try harder next time. You never get anything.

Quality, price and levels of sophistication makes it an electric E class....... at best.

The impact of the new 7 series/i7 is so strong, that from what I see here, it is subconsciously raising doubts as to whether the EQS is even a luxury car.

No I don’t because nothing you post makes any sense. You said that EQS was not luxury, I then asked what makes that true, then you asked if it was on the level of the E, and then said that’s still luxury. That is what YOU said, not me. The point was that’s it’s still a luxury vehicle, not what level it was. Now since you’re shifting your argument around because you don’t know what you’re talking about, the EQS is NOT priced like a E anything. That’s just plain wrong/BS. You don’t know what you’re talking about. Levels of sophistication? Even you can even explain this comment I’ll be shocked. I’ll wait.

Define luxury car ?

According to Mercedes own segment definitions, this is luxury... ("Entry luxury")

... so at this point, I think it's safe to say pretty much everything is a luxury car - they just come in different sizes and prices.
