Big Sam's New Renault 5 E-Tech

I missed this thread. I spot this car weekly. Mainly in blue or yellow. Never seen a white one.

Belated congratulations. How does a shirt wheel base EV feel to drive compared with larger EVs?

Thanks, Luw.

To be honest, in the same way you wouldn't really compare a Ford Ka with a Panamera Turbo S, I wouldn't really compare this with a Taycan or Macan Turbo. They're just so different on every level that it's pointless. What I *would* compare it with is an equivalent ICE, like a Ford Ka or a VW Polo, and in that way it's just so much better. The 0-100 km\h time of 8 seconds is kind of meaningless due to the torque and having no gears. It feels so much quicker than that and it really doesn't need any more power. 150hp is enough. It just feels "right". It's planted and like a go-kart. Genuinely fun. And none of these things are why we got the car. They're just "nice to haves". It's a (relatively) cheap city runabout for my wife to take the children to school. But it's great being able to buy a car to do that job, that is also cheap to run, quick, sporty, practical, relatively premium feeling when you take the price in mind, desirable, turns heads on the street, but can also do long journeys in relative comfort (hopefully).

I love it.

Tesla spoiled us into thinking that every electric car should/can do 0-62mph in under 5 seconds. This is not neccessary at the expense of range or engineering cost. Furthermore, if you travel with passengers they will unlikely appreciate being jurked about by sudden rapid acceleration.

Teslas are also crazy stiff on the suspension side, like they’re built for the Nurburgring.

I am looking forward to the Renault 4 with the canvas roof.

I read that both (4 and 5) are surprisingly supple.
