8 Series [Spyshots] BMW’s 8-Series Gran Coupe Makes Its Spy Debut

The BMW 8 Series is a range of grand tourer coupes and convertibles produced by BMW. The 8 Series was introduced in 1990 under the E31 model code and was only available as a two-door coupé. The E31 was discontinued in 1999 due to poor sales. The model range was later reintroduced in 2018 with the second generation, G15 8 Series. It launched in coupé (G15), convertible (G14), and four-door Gran Coupé (G16) body styles, as the successor to the F06/F12/F13 6 Series lineup.

It was obvious it would be prettier than the A7 or CLS in camouflage based on the 8er coupe ....will it be prettier than the 6GC? ... not yet convinced will need to see it totally unveiled.

I totally agree the 6 GC is very beautiful, but I find it a little less dynamic from profile than the 8 GC. The 6 GC is long and low (good profile proportions), but its profile is roughly like a rectangle with a perfectly round circle arc on top of it, which makes the front and rear very symmetrical. The 8 GC has a similarly long and low profile, but its roofline is faster/straighter towards the bootlid, which creates a clear difference between front and rear, hence a more dynamic/directional profile which makes it a much closer descendant of the 2007 CS Concept. And actually overall proportions (length to height, body to glasshouse, overhangs to wheelbase, rear haunches to width...) just seem perfectly on point this time around.

Didn’t see this picture before rear end turned out way better than I had imagined. Less hatchback like, BMW camouflages works really well!

What I think makes me like the GC (much) better than the 2-door is the tearing edge. While the rear of the latter is visually elongated even more by a double edge (which doesn‘t look very sharp in itself), the former has a single taut razor sharp line emphasizing the width of the car body.

Holy smokes, just spectacular.

Indeed, it somehow looks completely different and for the better. A worthy successor to the 6er GC after all then.

Agreed. I always considered that a typical BMW trademark and I am surprised we don't see it more often:

That double lip we see on the coupe is a leftover hard-to-die design element from the Bangle era.

And the slightly regressed rear window is a nice detail:

Based solely on looks, the contest in the German ICE sport/luxury sedoupe segment will be between the 8 GC/M8 GC and Audis' A/S/RS7. My 2 Euro cents.

Just the 8 Series Gran Coupe
Do you think they can still change some aspect (especially the front) of the prototype M8 GRAND COUP we saw in the spy photos? I'm afraid, even though it's cover, the front won't live up to the aggressive concept (which to me is feasible and achievable ). In your experience what do you think??

No, should be very similar to the coupe and convertible

Wow definitely the Gran Coupé
Could this be Wildberry Individual?!

I'd love to see an 8er (regardless whether coupe, cabriolet or GC) in this color with those rims. It would be stunningly elegant while highly eye-catching methinks.

And it would help erase the image of the ghastly, rear-winged, Schnitzer "enhanced" examples posted recently from my mind.
