GLE [Spyshots] 2015 Mercedes GLE Facelift (formerly M-Class) (X166)

The Mercedes-Benz GLE, formerly Mercedes-Benz M-Class (designated with the "ML" nomenclature), is a mid-size luxury SUV produced by the German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz since 1997. In terms of size, it is slotted in between the smaller GLC and the larger GLS, the latter with which it shares platforms.
Other than the old G at the top end and the new GLA at the lower side, design-wise Mercedes SUVs are inferior to the competition, segment-wise imo. They are attractive to eyes but nothing special. Just plain designs with corporate Mercedes front end. The X5 and the Q7 look more upscale compared to the ML and even GL and the Range Rover is just out of league..even previous model Range Rover looks much better than anything new from MB inside and outside. Mercedes needs BLING in their SUV design.

That is nuts, no way an X5 or a dated Q7 look more upscale than a GL. The GL550 blows the segment wide open in nearly every way.

Thanks to your own contribution in the Audi Q7 section that Q7 "looks" more upscale to me than the ML and even the GL but primarily I was comparing the "design" with the ML in my original post. The interior of both GL and ML are more or less same and the Q7 seems to beat them both IMO.

I also feel that model to model the X5 has edge over the ML from day one. My preference is the X5 in the segment.

Then we simply disagree. The Q7 is a relic and the x5 can't touch the GL IMO. X5 over ML I agree, but GL, not even close.

I hope MB changes the horrid rear of the ML. It´s that part what needs a complete rethink, not the front one.

Just to further clarify my statement, I like the GL but I tend to compare that SUV with Range Rover and RR is a much better option imo. GL customers have the best SUV available for little more price, the Range Rover, but quality related issues of Range Rover may be putting them off. Design wise, there is no comparison, RR wins all the way.

X5 is the direct competitor of ML and not GL. And comparing ML to X5, the BMW product look better inside and outside on model to model basis, not only in look but on the basis of perceived quality also. Q7 lie somewhere in between the GL and ML and compared better overall to the ML and feels better than GL inside.

Mercedes offering is therefore just ordinary to the direct competitors from Europe in mid to upper range SUVs except the old G. However, GLK and GLA are at the top of their game in their segments.

Yeah I'd take a X5 over an ML, but you brought up the GL and the X5 doesn't compare for my money. The Q7 doesn't feel better than a GL inside man, that is nuts. The Q7 is a relic.

And the GL is technically a simple ML. Just made bigger so driving, handling, braking and everything worse. Just a bit more space inside.

I was never a fan of the way the side swage line runs into the top of the front wheel arch on the ML, it looks incongruous to me and I hope that it is changed in the facelift. Other than that I actually like the front end.

I'm guessing the upcoming X7 will battle it out with the GL?

If Mercedes redesigns the interior and exterior to match their quality and design for their current line-up like the C Class, I'd take the ML over the X5.

Kudos to MB to change their interiors in the LCIs. The current one was so dated. I like a lot the V interior so this is fantastic news.

If you start looking at the details like the window controls and the left air vent it looks like it may be a photoshop...
