S-Class [Spyshots] 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe/Cabriolet

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, formerly known as Sonderklasse, is a series of full-sized luxury sedans and coupés produced by Mercedes-Benz. The S-Class is the designation for top-of-the-line Mercedes-Benz models and was officially introduced in 1972 with the W116, and has remained in use ever since. The S-Class is the flagship vehicle for Mercedes-Benz, being positioned above the other Mercedes-Benz models.
Remember Autobild updated its render with the license plate on the bumper for the cabrio version:

It certanly does NOT look good IMO. I hope they are wrong with this render, but I guess they won´t as they have an excellent accuracy rate with MB renders.

For sure the beauty is in the eye of the beholder as I like some renders that a lot of people dislike and as I hate a lot of renderings that people tend to love. For example I like a lot this rendering, and I think IRL it will look much better but with these specific details. And I hate that rendering of the new C class coupe that someone loves it so much. I don't understand whats so special at that car (the one in the rendering not the real deal).

i'm 97% sure this is what the real deal looks like unfortunately but im sure the production version will add small accenting to make it look more appealing

Well you're 98% wrong, because that render might show the general idea of the car, but for the rest it's an untalented attempt with the wrong proportions.

I hate the render, but sort of like the idea.
It coud be very bold and good looking to have a big MB star between the rearlights and the licence plate in the bumper. Could be very distinct and modern looking. And unique, and that's what people want in this class right?

I've always found the CL an awkward looking shape in every version they've ever produced and by the looks of it this latest attempt is little different. :(

CL-awkward looking shape ?? I have always thought that everybody loves the CL. Its a spectacular car, and almost always the best looking Merc. This last one, has 7 years of production but still when I see one it looks incredibly beautiful. His design doesn't bore people. Amazing car. I can't imagine how difficult is for MB ingineers to produce and build a succesor for this wonderful car. It is 10/10.

^Hey each to their own, personally I never liked it though there's no disputing its technically amazing.... always has been.

Except for a short little stint where I was in love with the 215, I have always thought of CLs as overly sized for the fact that they were only two doors. Too upright for my tastes... I prefer two-door models to be sporty, whereas the CL always felt like a sedan with the inconvenience of a coupe.

The new one is looking like it wants to throw that perception of mine on its head. Its size, to start, is or at least looks a whole class lower than the S. Yet, I believe it shares same chasis and same goodies on a svelter-looking frame. Much sportier. I have the feeling I will return as a fan of the model.

The Autobild renderings posted above, save a few sculptural details, are a very inaccurate reflection of the appearance of the future S-Class coupe/cabriolet. True, Autobild pre-intro renderings for the R231 SL and C218 CLS were quite accurate. But many other future M-B renderings were very much "off the mark". Perhaps the most accurate rendering so far is the one published in a recent edition of carscoop.com (the red car posted earlier on this thread).

And you know this how ? The mule looks just like the Autobild chops.

Regularly navigating the Autobahns and federal/secondary roadways of southwestern Germany occasionally present me with opportunities to spot so called "Erlkönige" (pre-production prototypes). Suffice to say that the Autobild renders (should you be referring to the "Avarvarii" images of the W222-based cabriolet) do not reflect the proportions of the car accurately. As I mentioned previously, some of the sculptural details may indeed appear on the "real thing". It is difficult if not impossible to identify the details of flank sculpturing, lamps and facias on a prototype whizzing by you at higher speed.

With reference to my post above:

The height of the new car appears to have been substantially diminished, as can also be seen in the photographs and video of the Scandanavian winter tests. I would speculate under 1400 mm. The car also appears wider in comparison to the C216, perhaps closer to 1900 mm. All in all, it is a car that gives an impression of being larger than, for example, an F12/13 BMW 6 series.

Frankfurt, count on it. It will be on sale before the end of the year, thats usually how it goes with the sedan and coupe S models.
