Anyone knows why MB actually used C's platform to make the E coupe?

It was originally conceived as a CLK replacement and then made an E-coupe well into the development cycle. They were able to charge E sedan money for a cheaper vehicle to produce. Id expect the next true E coupe to charge a premium over the sedan.

The C63 cabriolet is going to be rather heavy (not just price, but weight-wise) if we add the weight of the convertible roof and monocoque reinforcement to the weight of the C63 coupe.
