Ferrari Getting Ready To Reveal 488’s Big Hybrid Brother But Not In Geneva

new mid-engine supercar with a hybrid powertrain that combines a twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor.

The new supercar will be positioned above the 488 per Ferrari’s official future strategy, which includes the introduction of a “two tier mid-rear engine product range”. Ferrari is planning to reveal the new model as soon as next week according to some rumors but not at the Geneva Motor Show according to AutoNews.

Ferrari is also rumored to reveal the 488 replacement first at the Geneva Motor Show, followed by the more powerful hybrid supercar’s debut later this year, which we have to say sounds more plausible.

The new hybrid Ferrari will be a regular, series-production model with a regular lifecycle, and will be the first to feature Ferrari’s second-generation hybrid technology. The first one was the limited LaFerrari with its hybrid V12 powertrain.

With the Ferrari 488 Pista already packing 711hp from its twin-turbo V8, it’s pretty easy to wonder what kind of firepower will the new mid-engined hybrid Ferrari will get. Ferrari will want to make a statement with its first series-production hybrid supercar and therefore the horsepower figure could go as high as four digits, surpassing even the LaFerrari.

All we have to do is wait and see what Ferrari has in store for us in the coming weeks, starting with the Geneva Motor Show.

So this is the new one that'll sit above the current Mid V8 supersport...

It's not like Ferrari will have an issue regarding selling this car due to a possible overlapping and competing with itself, but if I presume that the next 488 replacement will have a power figure of around 750-770 horsepower given that it must surpass the most powerful figure of 720 horsepower in the Pista, how much power does this car need to justify its position as a tier higher?

Also, is this car going to replace the 2 seater front V12 range as the regular production flagship?

Finally, I usually include such a question in my posts that concern such cars, but:

Will it go racing? :D:cautious:

According to an Italian well informed source (from Autopareri forum) this is the plan for this year:

F 142 (488) coupe FL
F 142 (488) spider FL
F 152 (812) MRHT (hardtop)
F 169 coupe’ (portofino)
F 173 Coupe’ (v8 +hybrid)
The last one will not be limited edition and will be the fastest Ferrari ever built

Another FL for the 488? Isn't this car too old already?

You took the words out of my mouth. The design is so tired looking now and interior looks/quality is mid-2000’s.

I was thinking the Pista would be the swansong so they can move on.

I’m sure they’ll do a good job with the design. Probably debut is Geneva and the hyper car later in the year so only 2 more weeks to judge.

I wonder why they aren't moving on the more modular architecture. Not that the 458/488 platform isn't capable, but it's starting to feel like a beating of a dying horse (no pun intended).

My strong guesstimation is that it's a strong facelift of the 488 that'll debut in Geneva and most likely run for another 3 years. Probably same hp as the Pista with its features and tech.

I confirm...I was told that the cabrio will arrive in 2021 so this should mean at least 2019-2020-2021 for the 488M and being this the last V8, for some could be interesting to purchase this car that at the end will cost slightly more than the today 488 with performances similar to the much more expensive Pista...Not too bad..

Last V8? What has been told about Ferrari downsizing its current V12 and V8 portfolio?

Sounds like a similar move that Lamborghini pulled from Huracan Performante to Huracan EVO

It's probably a milking process before they start introducing Hybrid cars.
