I'm not going to worry, because all the S-Class prototypes/test mules we have all viewed over the years on this site and the one before, have all looked like sht and then the car debuts and everything is right.

The headlights are not final, they seem to be missing some reflectors and design details and will probably have extra DRLs. Even the bulb looks almost like a halogen orange colour and not white like LEDs.

I am not worried, it will look great once fully revealed. What S-class has been underwhelming at launch with its styling?

They probably bring two headlight options; one standard and one high tech version with everything. By making the standard version look like nothing, you're sort of forced into the costly high tec option. Like is the case with the W222. So the pictures above perhaps show the standard headlights. Below the high tec option:

Actually, they look so plain I even wonder if there is any camo still around them.

Is this really how they look, @Busty?

it seems there's still a decent amount of camo, but that may be my denial as that looks underwhelming. I'll defer to @Busty though.

The outline is actually the final one, even though there is still some camo towards the fender (diagonal line below the headlight). As I put it: the shape is a bit random. Somewhere between AMG 4-door and 1 series pre-FL.
The graphics and the glass cover as @SCOTT27 pointed out already are not final yet, of course. So @Mick Briesgau even the standard version will look much more refined than this. This is roughly speaking just a bulb in a plastic case :).
What’s already ‚visible’ is what I referred to as a strange transition from headlight to grille. The hood (that does not wear camo anymore but only traces of removed camo, I guess) shows the upper corners of the grille. And you can guess how close the headlights are to those corners. Too close for my taste.

The head light graphics with surely look quite sophisticated, there i no doubt about that. The undefined shaope of the headlights is what is probably surprissing some for us in a negative way.

I might have been fooled by the spy pics. I was picturing a more aggressive outline.

Agreed, the standard version headlights of the W223 will look much more sophisticated than that "bulb in a plastic case". But I'm also sure, they will make the standard version boring/semi-good looking compared to the high tec option, that you're forced into buying last mentioned option, to have a decent looking car. BMW has this better solved with it's 7er; laser or no laser ( a bit of blue) more or less look the same to me.

It seems the shape, outline of the headlight cluster is genuine (while the graphics is not) .

So, almond-shaped headlights are here to stay even with the new gen MB S-class? o_O

An evolution of current ones. I'm not sure how will that work with a hexagonal grille. We shall see.

Definitely a step away from sharp, pointy, angular, thin(er) shape of headlights on A, CLA, CLS, even Maybach SUV Concept etc.

Undefined shape? In what possible way is this less defined than the current S class?
From what I can tell the headlights look like a more modern version of the current theme.

Either way, I quite like these last revealing spy shots, and I am particularly happy with the FACT that they are not messing with a cheap or ugly hood shutline like they do on many other models in the line-up.

Definitely a step away from sharp, pointy, angular, thin(er) shape of h...

Because those thin agressive headlights would look completely out of place on an S class.

BTW, that latest profile pic reminds me a bit of the W211, how about you @Monster ?

I hope, no! I hate fake exhausts. Can anyone tell me, why automakers do them?! They spend billions on new car projects - self driving tests etc. - and do f.......ing fake exhausts. Why?
I am in total agreement with you, I honestly dont know why they adding these on the bumper bottoms, in alot of cars it is actually ugly, a conventional round end tailpipe looks so nice. Just leave the bumpers plain with no holes and no fake outlets and show the round exhaust ends and I will be happy.

Back to the S-class, the backlights have me slightly worried, I am hoping they not going to be a copy paste of the CLS/CLA or A-class saloon.

there are fake exhaust, and semi fake...
I have the current e class petrol and i have what i call semi fake because the real exhaust is 10cm behind the rear but still facing to those tips and not facing downside like diesel
Semi exhaust is better if, like i had the "pleasure" to be hit from behind and the spolier was done...BUT the real exhaust was perfectly clear and safe, so i had just to change the spoiler . So from safety for the real exhaust this is the way, but again that doesn't mean they could not stop making those tips
