Edit - @CrunchSlaughtered beat me to the punch.

Why, LS400 was better or I am missing something?

The unforeseen success (well 6 years development by Toyota) of the Lexus LS400 shocked the 7er and more-so the W126 (too long on the market) to their core with it’s built quality, comfort, and price upon it’s introduction.

Prof. Dr. Niefers' terminal engineering extravaganza before he departed:

The LS400 sent shockwaves through the luxury car segment when launched in 1990 as it was 20 to 30% cheaper than the W126 and E32 but was far superior than both with its outstanding powertrain refinement and extremely low noise levels. It was also better equipped as standard and Lexus brought in an excellent customer care afterservice that was the best in the industry at the time. Not just that it was just as comfortable and good to drive as both German cars with better performance than the 735i and 420SE. I remember seeing a test from AMS from 1990 and the LS400 was 4 or 5dB quieter at 200km/h than the 420SE W126.

From the mid-1980s' through the early 1990s', Japanese manufacturers in general shocked the Germa...
Now we return to our regularly scheduled program/topic. Who wants to get alerts from this forum then come here to read about Lexus from the 90’s?

leak

Well that is 100% it. As you all can see, the grille isn't as controversial as the poor renders made it seem.

What a terrible leak for MB. They definitely got hit with the BMW bug.

I'm getting slightly retro vibes from the grille, looks a bit narrower and taller.

Perhaps a bit anticlimactic for those who may have expected more in terms of exterior design. Still, it is a handsome car that will be able to clutch the eye in the right colors and with the right rims. And much of the tech will surely fascinate.

After some reflection, the W221 design study leak in 2002 (!) was much worse than this. But still far from ideal.

If this is the real deal (and it is) then the 222 is still the absolute winner 4 me.

I like the sensual purity with no lines, but the spectacular „dropping line“ on the 222 makes the car so much standing out.

This 223 is too much „audi“-sh for me (specially rear: 2 piece rear lights and front: narrow front lights and a biiig grill).

I have no doubt in the perfection of materials, details, new safety features and technology advancement, but the design (as the pictures seen till now) is really nothig special for me. Maybe i will change my mind, when i see it in real life..

There‘s also one thing:

When i was at the presentation of the W222 in Ljubljana, where also Robert Lešnik was invited, he said, that first they wanted to make upright headlamps, but the board didnt allowed it because it would be too much aristocatic and because recession was coming.

I would like to ask Lešnik & Wagener why they didnt did it at the V223 ? It would remind us of the legendary Mercedes 600, the most aristocratic Merc of all time.

Wow, what a leak. Porsche, BMW, and now MB have very serious issues with containment at their home base. Someone will loose their job if they are caught.

The W223 looks very elegant as expected; a grown up version of the controversial design language as mentioned by others
