so this could actually be bmws ass in the sleeve, that they are leaning in the other direction. which in my opinion is the right way - the mass is going radical even a ford KA has dynamic lines everyhwere. so the eye of the customer is becoming used to alot of busy shadows and reflextions on an average car - in other words, it is nothing special anymore to have a flame surface
exciting design times :t-cheers:

"Reduced design" ... "Zen-like design" ... "Evolutionary revolution"

Yes, while others are going BMW-like frenzy, BMW are shifting back to clean & simple lines. Yet very sharp lines & sharp details. To stand out again.

The styling (flame surfacing) won't change much - more refinement & clean cuts are the keywords, the design will be much more elegant & sleek (which has more to do with engineers & marketing guys than designers).

But do not expect "back-to-the 90's" shift. It won't happen.

It will be bad for some BMW designers if the new A8 is more radical and soportier than the 7er.

And if it has better quallity materials...

This is what Ascariss posted with his photoshop:

"original was a 3 series, I am not sure how the headlights will look 100%, I tihnk I got them close except maybe the side near the fender, might not be as curvy. The rear is up in the air probably off, and I suspect you can see more of the rear taillight. The side is is probably correct except the side metallic thing, it will look different. Front grill, uhm it is straight off copy from the spy picture below it so near the real thing. The real car will look a lot better in press photos since that is what the marketing and media branch want to achieve, enjoy. Sorry for the watermarks"

Uuuhmm....The real car will look better because the real car is not based on a 3-series, and the BMW designers did know what they were doing, while he was not....

please tine,don't get carried away;)

This is the S-Class,a world beating in the luxury segment.

Exactly. The S-class is the class benchmark, no question about it. It MAY be beaten, but it won't be shamed. But I'm confident the FL will keep it with or ahead of the pack.

Looks like a lavish X5 interior in the making. Not at all bespoke like the current 7.

^Yeah i was gonna point that out,X5/X6 interior for sure.Man my hopes are getting down bit by bit since scott's 97.5% announcement :D

I don't see anything else then a big slash of garbage camo over an interior who will have a screen, an armrest, an airvent grille, a gearlever and a pair of nice seats.

Maybe you have Superman's laser-eyes, or some sort of X-Ray glasses, but what I see here looks like nothing at all in poor human my eyes.:D

Only things I can judge is that the airvent grill and buttons around it don't look particularly upscale, neither do the seatbelt-lock, and that the seats are very sporty for a car of this category.

btw, i don't know if anyone has touched this topic yet, but i have heard several months ago that bmw is interested(and have already built a prototype) in an ethernet wired electronic system - how far are they with its testing, could we possible see this in the new 7 ? [this is what i see as a jump from dos to windows)

Well i guess he meant that it looks a lot like that int shot we had a while back showing strong resemblance to X5/6 interior,at least that's what i think:D

No.

Expect even more upscale & luxurious variant of X6 cabin design. And more sedanish & driver oriented layout. More sporty luxury.

Bespoke & special interior ... new 8er (project Gran Turismo), new Z8, "super-coupe".

F01: both exterior & interior design will be unified with the rest of BMW model line design. Finally integrated into the BMW family. Back to the past. ;)

As planned then. The 7-series is no longer the range-topper and hence it has to be less extravagant. Not saying that it will not match the S-class in many ways but lets guess that all the really special bits will be saved for the 8-series. Or?

short translation:
the reporter is driving in a 5 series prototype which is equiped with the next generation of night vision technologie, which bmw wants to introduce with the new 7series
this new night vision system is able to recotize pedastrians in a range of 100m - a yellow symbol will signal its discover - this is possible, because they use thermo camera technology as assistance
further on a new camera system(situated behind the rear mirror), is able to "read" about 70 prozent of all traffic signs - sadly it doesn't work on us roads, because their signs aren't standardized. this new feature is only displaying the signs, but not regulating speed on its own

Thx jack ... forgot to mention that it is written in German :eusa_doh: :D

Try >> this << link. Hope it helps (you'll have something to laugh).

Expect from Audi to push the new A8 in even further into luxury waters. IMO shortly exceeding instant luxury experience of 7er. Yet 7er will have deeper character - as BMW cars always do. And do not forget a new flagship is coming, and the Silver Ghost from RR as well. So, the line from 7er, new Z8, to 8er 4dr GT, and further to baby Rolls have to be very clean & precise. Without gray areas.

I'm sure when Porsche cuts even deeper in VAG guts the results will be seen sooner or later: presenting more focused products, and less cannibalizing within the Group. Right now some models of certain brands (or even within the same brand) are positioned to closely together.

But ... S-class still has THE image in this segment, but I'm afraid that's all what will left to S-class.

A8 ... double-attack: on new 7er's agility & sportiness, and S-class' comfort & luxury experience.

The insiders say Audi is putting enormous resources in this car ... Since they are determined to be #1 luxury brand - image & experience wise (not necessary sales wise). With all the VAG & PAG support, they have great chances to succeed. Yet neither BMW nor MB are not standing still. But ... will that be enough?

****

BMW are aware they can't win this race ... therefore all the resources are directed into EfficientDynamics: to position BMW as the greenest & cleanest, and most dynamic brand (cars as well) among luxury brands.

Btw, my birdies say (rumors from suppliers) the new A8 will be a bit too aggressive (completely overdone) in appearence for the large luxury sedan segment. Some say Audi may make a step too far. Like BMW did with E65: stirring the automotive world completely. :t-hands:

I'm very eager to see that car.

Haven´t seen this interesting post (as all EnI´s ones). I really think that a premium car like the 7er, A8 and S-Class needs is an agressive look. Not a tank one, but a sportier one.

Do you imagine an A8 having the overall appearence of an A5?. That will be stunning, and people will fall in love with LEDs lights, agresive look, and the refinement and the luxury of such a car.

If a car of this segment mixes the luxury of Mercedes and the sportines of BMW, will clearly win the race, that´s for sure.

winning the race to me, is selling most cars..
and maybe a small ammount goes into winning comparisons..
so far the S class has done that through out history..
and i dont think it will fade out..
on the other hand... i welcome competition..
it will only make MB even better at the game they invented:D
