Cadillac CT6 [Spy Shots] Cadillac CT6 Spy Pics & Info

The Cadillac CT6 (short for Cadillac Touring 6) is a full-size luxury car manufactured by Cadillac between 2016 and 2020 over two generations. The first generation CT6 was introduced at the 2015 New York International Auto Show and went on sale in the U.S. in March 2016. It is the first car to adopt the brand's revised naming strategy, as well as the first rear-wheel drive full-size Cadillac sedan since the Fleetwood was discontinued in 1996. In 2020, the CT6 was discontinued in the United States, to be replaced by the forthcoming Cadillac Celestiq liftback sedan.
It was marked for failure before it was developed. GM is not capable of building a car like the S-Class. Their culture won't allow it. Johann knows this which is why they're now saying the CT6 won't challenge the S-Class. For a true S fighter will have to wait for another car 5 more years.

M
They have never said the ct6 would compete with the S. It was a big hype and rumors from the magazines and stuff.:)

To build a car to challenge or beat the Mercedes S Class will be a massive engineering task which I don't believe Cadillac have the talent to achieve. They got closer with the ATS but still lacks the pedigree and all round excellence of Mercedes and BMW.

A good post from gminsidenews.com:
"I think this is the new GM we are witnessing here. Although many on here feel that they are talking, they will back it up like they are doing with the ATS and CTS.

Things will get worse with Cadillac in a short term but will get better in long term for as sales are concerned.

I do like the fact that the CT6 will be a short wheelbase model while the CT8 will be a long wheelbase model with each having different body styles inside and out and give customers a better alternative and choices. Very smart in my book. Let the Escalade have standard wheelbase and long wheelbase versions with the same body style.

Keep in mind that the CT6 is the longest car in the class as far the short wheelbase models are concerned in sheet metal. The CT6 will compete with the S Class for right now since we don't have a short wheelbase model offered in the states. So people wondering if the CT6 is a direct competitor or not don't need to worry because it is a competitor to the S, 7, 8A, XJ, LS and etc.

Cadillac should reserve the CT9 name, I'll explain later, for a more elite model. The CT8, don't know how Cadillac is going to planned between CT6-CT9, should be a long wheelbase model which will easily compete with the long wheelbase models from Europe and Lexus. I am a little disappointed that the CT6 was just short wheelbase at first but now the news are more clearer from Johan.

Once Cadillac is viewed near or on the same conversation, mind, and sentence from 2 generation models in the future from now, Cadillac may consider doing a more elite, opulent, super, ultra-luxurious sedan to compete directly with RR and Bentley 10+ years from now as a CT9 such as the Phantom and Mulsanne. Maybe compete between the Ghost and Phantom like the XTS is between the E and S class as an example. But most likely, IMO, it could be a direct competitor to Phantom and Mulsanne at a slight smaller price. Could be interesting.

The names people are harping on does not make the car, it is the car that makes the name. If the car is not great in the beginning, the name does not matter.. Actual car names are more expensive to reserve and takes a long time, according to one source, to be cleared legally. The focus is to focus on the brand, not actual names. With proof in the CTS, ATS, XTS, ELR and Escalade, there will be more surprises and things from GM that we have not witness yet. And I expect that Chevy, Buick and GMC will follow similar traits and follow Cadillac in their own market.

Mary Barra and Mark Ruess are listening to Johan and they pretty much agreed with on pretty much on Cadillac and it is obvious that Mark and Mary are very serious with Cadillac so they are pretty much green-lighting almost everything. When I was reading in the Automotive News about the CT8/CT9 being green-lighted, I was taken by surprise. No one had the balls from Cadillac to influence GM to make Cadillac a true elite of the class in the past and it is happening now. So we have the good guys from the company like Johan, Ruess and Barra taking over and influencing the conservatives from GM and taking over. If not right now, there will be a major shake up still in the future inside of GM. If you don't know what I mean, look at the excellent C7, CTS, ATS, Escalade, Sierra/Silverado, Colorado, Impala, Regal and etc.

I just hope Cadillac and GM be serious and stick with their new beliefs and become gutsy, different and class leading like they are now many years from now and beyond when we are gone from earth. The current administration don't last forever, nothing does in life, but have successors who sees the same vision go forth and improve and make the current policies stick this time for the better."

2017 Cadillac CT6 Visualized Based on Prototypes, Brand's Styling

We hope the new CT6 signals the return of Cadillac at the top of the luxury sedan pile, a spot it hasn’t occupied in many decades.

This rendering hints at what it could possibly look like, though it’s claimed to be pretty accurate, as it’s based on (what we understand are) leaked images of CAD files, spyshots and Cadillac’s current styling language to fill in the remaining blanks.

The result is fairly believable, though obviously not of the best visual quality. It does get the message across, and taking several glances at it, then at spyshots and then back repeatedly, the proportions and general outline of the body do look accurate.

As for the finer details, well, it was rendered with two distinct styles of headlights. One is similar to what current production Caddys look like, while the other sports more of a concept look (the one with the slimmer lights).

The new Cadillac CT6 flagship sedan will have an interior worthy of a $100,000 car, including the Buick Avenir concept’s large infotainment screen, redundant infotainment screens in the back of the two front seat headrests, and a T-handle electronic automatic transmission shifter, according to a third-party source.

While the Cadillac ATS and third-generationCTS interiors represented a leap forward in the luxury brand’s interior quality, they still fall short of Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi levels. The CT6’s interior looks like something from a $100,000 car, our source indicates. Although it’s said to have a capacious interior, the CT6 reportedly will be a bit shorter than the Mercedes-BenzS-Class, BMW7Series and Audi A8, and may instead be a more expressive sedan along the lines of a Mercedes CLS, BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe and Audi A7, though without a rakish “four-door coupe” roofline.

As our latest spy photos of the Cadillac CT6 show, the car should feature a characteristically flat-fronted grille, with overall proportions that are generally in line with the car's potential luxury competitors. The rear of the camouflaged mule slopes slightly at the end of the roofline, most likely contributing to a more stylish, swept-back look.

Like the Buick Avenir concept, arguably the number-two hit (behind the Ford GT) of the 2015 Detroit auto show in January, the production Cadillac CT6 will ride on General Motors’ new Omega full-size RWD platform, and will be the first model to use the automaker’s new nine-speed automatic transmission. The Buick Avenir, which was described as an all-wheel-drive variant of the platform, was said to be powered by GM’s next-generation direct gas-injection 3.6-liter “high-feature” V-6; the CT6 is expected to get this engine, plus a twin-turbo variant and possibly a new twin-cam V-8 based on the new four-six-eight-cylinder engine family.

The Avenir concept’s dash has a large center screen that’s at least twice as wide as the CUE screen in current Cadillacs, so it seems likely the CT6 will get a next-generation variant of the poorly received touchscreen infotainment/navigation/climate control system. GM’s new 4G LTE data capability is a very likely additional feature.

We’ll learn much more about Cadillac’s big new baby just ahead of the New York auto show’s press days at the beginning of April.

Maybe we can change the thread name to Cadillac CT6?

After initially disappointing with a new television commercial showing no cars, Cadillac has now released a follow-up ad that gives us a brief glimpse at the brand’s upcoming CT6 full-size sedan. The new CT6 is scheduled for its world debut at the 2015 New York Auto Show in April but you can see it in the ad above, which aired tonight during the televised programing for the Oscars.

The CT6 is a large sedan that will offer similar space and amenities to the smallest wheelbase versions of vehicles like the Audi A8 and BMW 7-Series. However, the CT6 isn’t Cadillac’s oft-rumored flagship. There will be one, or perhaps even two models positioned above it at some point.

That doesn’t mean the CT6 will be lacking pizazz as the car in the ad has impressive proportions and looks to be just as elegant as its rivals. The new CT6 will also be brimming with technology, some of which, like mixed-material construction and avideo-streaming rearview mirror, have already been detailed.

Underpinning the car is General Motors Company’s [NYSE:GM] new Omega platform for large, rear-wheel-drive cars. The platform will ensure the CT6 is one of the lightest, most fuel-efficient cars in its class and that it’s also compatible with plug-in hybrid technology. The CT6 will also offer V-6 and V-8 powerplants as well as all-wheel drive.

Pre-production CT6s are being assembled at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck plant in Michigan, which the automaker recently upgraded at a cost of $300 million to handle the new CT6 and other models sharing some of its technology. The first CT6 sedans will be arriving in showrooms in the fourth quarter of the year, as 2016 models.

Stay tuned for the official debut of the Cadillac CT6 at the 2015 New York Auto Show, which gets underway April 1. For more from the show, head to our dedicated hub.

LOL! Just missed posting that tidbit. Interesting ad, but one will have to wait for more. Johan de Nysschen I can see is at least doing well with marketing, but other aspects have yet to be seen.

Great ad. Not bad looking car ......but I am not expecting anything groundbreaking. I wish somebody would finally take the bull by the horns and give us something that redefines the entire luxury car paradigm.

Cadillac is well placed to be more adventurous .....they pretty much need to rebuild their (S class level) premium image from scratch. Cadillac haven't built a genuinely interesting production car since the 1970s! (My opinion of course) So they should man up and take a chance!

Looks like a 5er wagon/Kombi to me

In the mid-nineties , BMW tested the X5 chassis and Drivetrain underneath the then E34 Touring as the E39 Touring was not launched although this was the eve of the launch of the actual E39 5er which happened in late 1995.
This is the in conception 4x4 that would become the E53 X5 and change the company forever.

Yeah, unfortunately Cadillac does employ a 30-month freeze on their vehicles and 6+ months before that is design concept definition. The Elmiraj probably was developed from early 2013, meaning that any model mostly styled by late 2012 had no chance of resembling it. The CT6 fits that timeline to a tee, in being frozen about 2 years ago.

So Cadillac slipped a nip...

@ Carmaker1 nice early X5 avatar.

Someone noticed! Yep, definitely the first X5 mule back then. If I recall, the E39 Touring was launched in mid-1996, but the first actual X5 prototypes didn't start running until 1997 (see prototypes and renders from late 1997-1998). This photo is from about 1995-1996 I figure. E53 design work reached a very important stage by October 1996. I found this on an old hard drive full of many old spy shots I had downloaded and it was one of those that stood out. I also found design proposals of Audi's D2 A8 from 1991!

I completely agree and made a statement along these lines sometime back.
The Budget crunch of GM is whats holding Cadillac in shackles. (it`s the same damn thing with Lincoln.)

Imagine if Cadillac was independent (from GM) and or privately owned
in the US as a separate premium brand. With the proper owner and the right budget it could be taken to new heights with build quality, craftsman execution, performance and design enhancements. The new owner as you say, would have to start from scratch.

I'm really interested in this car. Especially interior. Hopefully it won't feature touch buttons as other modern Cadillacs do.

Cadillac confirms March 31 reveal for CT6; will have 64% aluminum body

Enter production late this year

Cadillac has released more details about the CT6's structure and they also confirmed a March 31 reveal for the upcoming flagship model.

We already knew the CT6 will boast a multi-material structure and now Cadillac says 64% of the body structure will be made from aluminum which has shaved 90 kg (198 lbs) compared to an all-steel body. All of the body panels are made from aluminum while 13 other different materials have been used to provide improved fuel economy, better driving dynamics and enable a quieter cabin.

The underbody features steel close-out panels on the lower structure as a measure to enable a “bank vault-quiet” cabin without having to add sound-deadening material which would have increased weight. The body structure has been reinforced by using high-strength steel in strategic locations, including the B pillars and a rear-mounted impact bar.

Cadillac CEO Johan de Nysschen has previously announced the CT6 will be offered with twin-turbo V6 and twin-turbo V8 engines, but their outputs is not known at this moment. However, the V6 churns 272 bhp & 295 lb-ft in the ATS & CTS while the V8 generates between 411 bhp and 455 bhp, depending on application.

We already know the driver will benefit from a digital rearview mirror featuring a 1,280x240-pixel TFT LCD with a 171 PPI pixel density. The mirror receives images through a high definition camera featuring a water-shedding hydrophobic coating granting a clear view even in harsh weather conditions. Cadillac promises this mirror will boost field of vision by around 300% and it will also diminish glare.

The Cadillac CT6 is scheduled to enter production towards the end of the year at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant.
