In order to compete with the brand new 2013 Mercedes-Benz S-Class arriving next year, BMW will launch a facelifted version of its 7-Series, which has been spied testing in prototype form. As can be seen by these latest spy shots, BMW is leaving its flagship sedan relatively unchanged.

That’s because most of the changes planned will be taking place under the skin. However, there will be some subtle changes to the exterior.

Starting with the headlight, the overall shape will remain the same but new LED accents will feature. The indicator lamps will consist of a new row of LEDS situated at the top of the unit. BMW should also offer an all-LED headlight option, just as it plans to do with the 6-Series range.

Other changes should include new wheel designs, restyled bumpers and a revised rear spoiler.

As for the mechanical package, expect more power across the range starting with the base 740i, which may see as much as 350 horsepower, while the 750i may see a jump to around 450 horsepower. No word if BMW plans to keep its V-12 powered 760i.

All engines should be matched to the latest variation of ZF’s eight-speed automatic transmission, and we could even see a number of new EfficientDynamics features appear such as brake energy recovery, engine stop-start and more electronically powered ancillaries.

Look out for a debut of the facelifted 2013 BMW 7-Series at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show next April, an appearance that will once again highlight the growing importance of the Chinese market to automakers all around the world.

LED Headlights for sure + they will keep the V12 for sure (The engine is new and also used by Rolls-Royce)
:t-cheers:

Edit: Those wheels/rims on the prototype is the ugliest I have ever seen on any BMW.

Can't really tell anything. Looks to be a careful facelift, with obvious headlight graphics/changes being the focal point.

Not much can be seen but Full-LED front lights are given and the turning lights will move from the outer corners to the top of the front lights.

I truly hope the front apron gets a thorough redesign as it currently is the weakest part of the design. :eusa_pray

For goodness sake I hope they do something with the terrible looking front bumper. The 7-Series has to have the M pack to look right up front. The standard bumper is just plain stupid looking.

Interior..

As an owner of an F10, it will take a lot for me to consider buying up to a 7 if the interior is identical. If anything, the 7er interior feels a little stale and uninteresting compared to the more "concentrated" 5er interior. They really need to do something about this..

One thing that is certain is that the F01/02 is the best looking luxury sedan in it's class with presence, elegance and a certain sportiness only the Jaguar XJ comes close in the 'turning heads' department.

In the TV series Dexter, a guy called Jordan Chase had a black F02 750Li...man that car just looks good on Miami's roads and on TV;)

The grill needes to be redesigned but id doubt it will, it's the only real weak point of the car.

Smaller kidney grille. :usa7uh:

Excellent spot there Bartek! The updated grille definitely is less snouty. :D

Also, what's up with the 'iCenter' badging behind the front wheel-arch?

The front valance gets updated too. It is a mix of the new 6er and Active Hybrid 7 Concept Car. Aswell as additional air curtain on the lower part.

Great news!! I always felt the Active Hybrid 7 Concept's front valance was more in-style with the rest of the 7er than the overly simplistic design of production model.

I wonder who at BMW, after looking at these sketches, decided to go with option #2. :eusa_thin

I don´t believe those are the final kidneys. I gues the final ones will mimic the 6er ones.

Hoping for an interior update to diffrentiate it further from the 5er

^ 7er already has the very best BMW interior design right now imo. Everything else is less good looking. Including new 6er (imo of course).

7er interior is royal and supreme imo. Simple perfection.

I'll say you right here and right now, to avoid major disappointment:

the grille will not change shape.

If so then worse for them, it will do wonders for the front. The kidneys shold be wider and less rounded.

And I agree 7er interior is the best BMW interior, and my favourite in the segment. But I think it should have more differences with the 5er one and be more exclusive.
